Longós combines a small harbor with a green landscape of olive and pine trees. Seafood is also part of Longós’ reputation. You can consider whether coastal scenery, walking, the beach, or local history should shape your trip.
A Harbor Village in a Green Landscape
Longós stretches around a small harbor in a landscape of olive and pine trees. The harbor and green surroundings give the village two distinct aspects: a harbor-centered village scene and a landscape shaped by these two tree species. This can help you decide whether to consider Longós primarily as a destination for its landscape or as a starting point for other interests. The walking route starts in Longós, while Levrechio and Marmari are in the immediate vicinity.
Walking Route and Nearby Beaches
A walking route about five kilometers long runs from Longós to Orkos Beach and Lákka. The elevation difference is 162 meters. Length and elevation difference are two specific measurements you can consider separately in your own plans if you are thinking about going for a walk during your stay.
Levrechio is on the east coast of Paxos, a five-minute walk from Longós. The small beach has white pebbles and clear water and is classified as an organized beach. What is available may change; check the current facilities before your visit if they are important to your plans.
Marmari is about 750 meters from Longós. The pebble beach is described as quiet, unspoiled, and easy to access. In comparison, Levrechio is characterized by its organized facilities, while Marmari is described as a quiet, unspoiled beach. The two nearby destinations have different distance information: a walking time for Levrechio and an approximate distance for Marmari.
Seafood as a Local Highlight
Longós is known for its seafood. For travelers who want to include food culture in their choice of where to stay, as well as scenery and excursions, this reputation complements the themes of harbor, coast, and history. It gives Longós a culinary highlight without requiring a particular restaurant to be part of your travel plans.
The Anemogiannis Factory and the Industrial History of Longós
The Anemogiannis Factory adds a historical focus to the description of the village. The Anemogiannis family bought the 3,500-square-meter plot in 1874. In the late 19th century, brothers Stefanos and Ioannis built the factory; Ioannis was a doctor. It initially operated as an olive press. The purchase of the plot and the construction of the factory are therefore two separate stages in its history.
The complex covers about 1,800 square meters and is part of a plot listed as 3,500 square meters. The complex includes a 24-meter-high industrial chimney. These measurements give an impression of the facility’s dimensions: the area of the complex and the height of the chimney describe different aspects of the factory site.
At its peak, the factory employed 60 to 72 workers. It closed in the 1980s. The recorded history therefore spans its use as an olive press, a period with many employees, and the end of its operations. Those interested in a destination’s industrial past will find a specific connection to the history of Longós here.
