If you are considering Dafnata as a place to stay on Corfu, you can plan your walks around three clear destinations: the route connecting Benitses to the settlement, the summit of Stavros Hill, and the Pantokrator Chapel. The routes also differ in their surfaces and estimated times.
Walking route between Benitses and Dafnata
Walking route No. 13 leads from the port in Benitses to the settlement of Dafnata in about 55 minutes. The Benitses–Dafnata walking route climbs through olive groves; sections run along gravel and/or asphalt paths. This adds specific information about the route and its surface to the connection between the settlements. The 55 minutes should be read as an estimate, not an exact planning time.
To Stavros Hill: Walking route No. 3
Walking route No. 3 starts in the settlement of Dafnata and heads east through forest and dense vegetation to the summit of Stavros Hill. This walk to the summit is estimated to take about 25 minutes. The time refers to the destination on the hill, not to a complete loop. For the return west to Dafnata, you can take a gravel path and then walking route No. 16. When planning, it is therefore worth treating the route to the summit and the described return as separate sections.
Paths to the Pantokrator Chapel
There are also different route options to the Pantokrator Chapel. Walking route No. 16 connects Dafnata to the chapel via a gravel path. It can be combined with route No. 12 to make a circular walk from Dafnata to the chapel. Route No. 12 follows the road towards Komianata for about five minutes; an old path to the Pantokrator Chapel starts there. This path has no major changes in elevation. The five minutes refer only to the road section up to the start of the path, not to the entire walk.
Alternatively, there is a route from Dafnata to the chapel via a gravel path that takes about 50 minutes. The options can therefore be distinguished by their course: route No. 12 first continues along the road and then follows an old path, while the alternative route has its own estimated time for the walk to the chapel. The statement about elevation changes applies to the old path; it does not automatically describe the entire route or the other paths.
Walking times and other options
For day planning, do not treat the times given as equivalent total durations: about 25 minutes applies to the walk to the summit of Stavros Hill, around 50 minutes to the alternative route to the Pantokrator Chapel, and approximately 55 minutes to route No. 13 from the port in Benitses to the settlement of Dafnata. The road section of route No. 12, in turn, takes about five minutes and ends where the old path begins. Walking times may vary depending on pace and conditions, so allow some flexibility. One recommended circular walk starts in the old settlement of Benitses and passes through Dafnata or by the settlement. For route No. 12 and this circular walk, it is a good idea to check current path conditions before setting out.
Walking on Corfu
As a broader travel destination, Corfu offers other hiking opportunities. In the municipal unit of Achilleion, ancient paths through the wooded mountains of Agii Deka, Stavros, and Garouna are suitable for walking. The 180-kilometre Corfu Trail also passes through several settlements; Benitses is one of its 13 daily-stage locations. This lets you distinguish between the specific routes associated with Dafnata and longer hiking options on Corfu.
