A small gorge with a four-syllable echo, an 18th-century church, and hiking trails with different points of reference give Dikorifo several ways to shape a stay. The Church of Saint Minas is in Dikórfo; Gouva is outside the village on the road to Manassí. The hiking routes also have different destinations: the Dikorfo–Kipi trail connects two Zagori villages, while the O3 National Hiking Trail descends to Dikórfo.

Village History and Church

Dikórfo is mentioned in the Voutsas chronicle in 1431. At that time, the village had 18 houses and was called Mikrí Tzondíla. The Church of Saint Minas dates from a later period. It is considered an important monument and dates to 1778; it was painted in 1812. This gives us two historical perspectives: the village’s mention in the 15th century and the church’s construction and painting dates in the 18th and early 19th centuries. During a stay focused on cultural history, you can therefore broaden your view from the church building itself to the village’s earlier history.

Gorge and Cliffs at Gouva

A small gorge lies outside DikĂłrfo, at Gouva on the road to ManassĂ. It produces a four-syllable echo. Beside the gorge is a steep cliff about 90 feet high, which is difficult to access. The echo and the cliff are two distinct features of the same nearby landscape: the echo belongs to the gorge, while the cliff is notable above all for its steepness, height, and difficult access. If you include Gouva in your plans, you can take these differences into account rather than treating the entire area as one uniform stop.

Hiking Trails with Different Points of Reference

The Dikorfo–Kipi hiking trail is moderately difficult, runs through nature, and connects two Zagori villages. The O3 National Hiking Trail descends to Dikórfo. These offer two different points of reference when choosing a hike: the Dikorfo–Kipi trail is described by its difficulty level and connection between two places, while the O3 is described by its descent to Dikórfo. The “moderately difficult” rating applies to Dikorfo–Kipi. Check current trail conditions before hiking, as they can change.

Choose Accommodation Based on What Matters Most to You

When looking for a place to stay, it helps to distinguish between the village and its surroundings: the church is in Dikórfo, while Gouva is outside the village. First decide whether your visits will focus mainly on the village, the area around Gouva, or the hiking trails. Then compare a hotel’s location with that focus. Check the specific details of an offer before booking. This is more useful than making a general request for a “good location,” because a location only matters in relation to the places you plan to visit.
