For hikes on Psiloritis, Fourfouras offers two named summit destinations: Timios Stavros and Korakia. There are also historic features in the village and natural attractions nearby. When planning your stay, you can distinguish between mountain trails, village history, and landscape features; the details of each trail and place provide their own points of reference.

Hiking Trails to Timios Stavros and Korakia

The route to Timios Stavros starts at the police station in Fourfouras and leads to the summit of Psiloritis. Take note of seasonal altitude advisories when hiking in the mountains. The hiking trail from Fourfouras to the summit of Korakia is considered clearly visible; terrain and conditions may change. The two hiking destinations differ in their points of reference: for Timios Stavros, the starting point and summit destination are specified, while for Korakia the trail’s visibility is emphasized.

Spring, Houses, and Church

The lower spring is in the western part of Fourfouras. Several old houses with simple architecture are also located in the western part. These features offer specific points of reference: the spring is a topographical landmark, while the houses stand out for their age and simple construction. The Panagia Kardiotissa Church is in Livada. It dates from the 14th century and was once a convent. Its construction date and former use as a convent provide two complementary historical points of reference: the century places its construction in time, while the convent’s function describes the building’s former role. The simple architecture in the western part of the village and the church’s history in Livada represent distinct aspects of the built environment.

Natural Park and Nearby Caves

Nearby, the Fourfouras Natural Park is located in the western foothills of Psiloritis, one kilometer north of the village square. The park has trails and a kiosk for resting. This differs from the summit hikes: here, the focus is on an area with trails and a place to rest, while each of the two hiking trails has a summit destination. The village square provides a specific point of reference for the park’s location.

Two caves add to the landscape features nearby. The smaller Hampathura Cave is on a steep slope of Psiloritis above Fourfouras, at an altitude of 1,460 meters. It has a main chamber; a small cellar for ripening cheese was built above it. Leska Cave is also on a steep slope above Fourfouras, at an altitude of 1,390 meters. It is difficult to reach; its several chambers were formerly used by cheesemakers to ripen cheese. The altitude figures make the difference between the two locations clear: Hampathura is 70 meters higher than Leska. The descriptions of the chambers also differ: a main chamber and a small cellar at Hampathura contrast with several chambers in Leska that were formerly used to ripen cheese.
