Foúrka can be explored through two distinct points of reference: the traditional village and the coastal area of Skála Foúrkas, which lies about two kilometres from the original settlement. Village architecture, religious art and coastal scenery offer different focal points for planning your trip. Geographically, Foúrka and its coastal area lie on the west coast of the first finger of Chalkidiki. When planning, the first question is therefore whether you would prefer to focus more on the village character, the coast or both areas.

Village character and churches

The traditional village is considered a quiet place; a paved stone street, houses and small churches shape its character. Foúrka is a centuries-old settlement, with well-preserved mansions and chapels in various parts of the village. The parish church, dating from 1830, serves as a cemetery church; its wall paintings date from the 16th century. The chapel of Panagía tou Meléti, meanwhile, is a cross-shaped domed church and is considered the work of folk builders. The architectural forms show different sides of the village: from the parish church with its cemetery function to mansions and chapels in various locations throughout the village.

Foúrka is also the birthplace of the architect Xenofón Paionídis. This connection adds a biographical facet to the architecture of the place.

Between the village and the coast

Skála Foúrkas is a highly developed tourist coastal area with a sandy beach. Foúrka Beach, also called Skála Foúrkas, is 2.5 kilometres long and has been awarded the Blue Flag. As the status of an award can change, check the current status before your trip. The coastal settlement is about two kilometres from the original settlement of Foúrka. This allows you to decide in advance which of the two local characters you would like to focus on.

Landscape and hiking trails

Pine forests and olive groves surround Foúrka; the area also has various trees and flowers. Hiking trails run through the dense vegetation around the village. If you are planning a hike, follow a specific trail description. This way, the paths in the surrounding area can be considered as a distinct nature-focused option, separate from the paved village centre.

Festivals and summer events

Festivals associated with Foúrka include Agía Marína on 17 July, Profítis Ilías on 20 July and Agía Paraskeví on 26 July. Check whether these festivals are taking place in your chosen travel year. Foúrkiótika Drávála is listed as taking place in the afternoon of the last Sunday of the carnival season in the village centre. You should also check before your trip whether the festival is taking place in your chosen year.

The cultural association is considered very active and organises various events for adults and children in summer. For planning, it is worth checking the specific dates and programme during your travel period. This allows you to consider the cultural calendar as a distinct part of your stay, alongside the enduring village churches and coastal scenery.
