Solihull’s Green Man Trail covers more than 21 miles of public footpaths. It connects the borough’s urban and rural areas, giving the route its distinctive character. It also includes Green Man figures created through partnerships between schools in the borough and the Solihull Neighbourhood Rangers. Along the trail, the landscape meets a specifically named local collaboration.

Parks and trees

Malvern and Brueton Parks are in the town centre and have Green Flag status. The trees take centre stage on the Brueton Tree Trail, with examples including English oaks, giant sequoias, ginkgos and tulip trees. While the Green Man Trail connects urban and rural areas of the borough, this tree trail draws attention to individual species.

Elmdon Nature Park is on the edge of Solihull. It is a Green Flag park and a local nature reserve. A lake and walking paths are part of the setting, along with rolling terrain and views across the region. Elmdon therefore offers a different focus from the parks in the town centre: the landscape and open spaces shape the visit, while Malvern and Brueton are within the centre. The three bus routes 5, 5A and 899 serve Malvern and Brueton Parks; check the current routes before travelling.

Historic traces

The Solihull Town Centre Heritage Trail is a 3 km circular route through the historic centre of old Solihull village. Another historic site is Berkswell Windmill, also known as Balsall Windmill. Built in 1826 on the site of an earlier post mill dating from 1706, it is considered the most complete tower mill in the Midlands. The two stories have different historical reference points: the trail passes through the old village centre, while the windmill points to two phases of milling at one site.

At Castle Bromwich Historic Gardens, 30 acres of the estate’s former parkland are now a local nature reserve. The landscape setting is complemented by a visitor amenity: the open-air Courtyard Café serves homemade cakes and locally produced savoury dishes and snacks. As the food offering may change, it is worth checking the current menu before your visit.

Industrial history in the collection

The National Motorcycle Museum displays more than 1,000 fully restored motorcycles, with over 850 on display at any one time. The collection includes 171 marques and spans five exhibition halls. Its historical range extends from a pioneering machine from 1898 to modern British superbikes. The figures offer several ways into the collection: its range of marques, the number of halls and the span between early machines and current British models.

Driving experiences and factory tours

At Land Rover Experience Solihull, Range Rover experiences include steep climbs, water crossings and specially designed obstacles. Three-hour sessions combine rock driving and water crossings with expert instruction. Guided Range Rover factory tours are also available at the original Land Rover production plant, where visitors can watch vehicles being assembled. Check the availability of bookable experiences and factory tours in advance.

Theatre and planning your visit

The Core Theatre Solihull offers a varied programme of professional and amateur music, drama and comedy events. As the programme changes seasonally, check the dates for your visit. This also helps distinguish between attractions described as permanent and time-specific offerings: trails, parkland and the museum collection provide different focal points for a visit than a particular theatre performance or a bookable driving experience.
