Todenham can be explored through two distinct themes: building history and food crafts. The manor house and two designated listed structures offer an opportunity to take a closer look at the architecture; the Butchery Masterclass, Herd and the Farm Shop provide practical experiences relating to butchery and food. This lets you consciously choose how to balance the cultural and culinary highlights of your stay.

Building History and Listed Status

Todenham Manor is an early 19th-century manor house built for the Pole family. Its south and west facades, as well as an extension, were designed by Guy Dawber in 1890–1891. This means the building has two clearly distinct historical aspects: its construction for the Pole family and later work on its facades and extension. If you are interested in architecture, this offers a specific starting point for viewing building history not as a single date, but as a process of development.

Packhorse Bridge and The Blacksmith's Shop also have different official designations. Packhorse Bridge in Todenham is designated a Scheduled Monument, meaning it is legally protected; The Blacksmith's Shop is a Grade II listed building. The architectural heritage of the village can therefore be viewed through different types of structures and categories of protection: a bridge and a building, alongside the manor house and its specific building history. These three points of reference remain clearly distinct as you explore the area's cultural heritage.

Butchery and Cuisine

The Todenham Butchery Masterclass lasts two and a half hours and is designed as a hands-on event in a purpose-built butchery. Its duration gives you a specific time frame if you would like to include food crafts in your plans. Booking arrangements may change, so check them in advance for your preferred date.

Herd at Todenham Manor Farm is a Cotswold restaurant serving seasonal cuisine and locally inspired dishes. It is open seven days a week. Check the service information before your visit, as details may change.

At Todenham Manor Farm Shop, you can meet the butchers and take home meat that has been raised and prepared in Todenham. The origin and preparation of the meat are explicitly part of what the shop offers. Visitor arrangements may change, so check them in advance if you plan to visit the shop.

When choosing between the culinary offerings, consider the type of experience: the Masterclass is a hands-on activity with a set duration, Herd offers seasonal restaurant cuisine, and the Farm Shop is about meeting the butchers and taking meat home. You can then decide whether you would prefer to take part in an event, dine out or pick something up.

Village Layout and Bridleway

The layout of the village can also be understood through named areas: it is based on the locations of the fields “Homestall Field” and “Todenham Field.” This connection shifts the focus from individual buildings to the structure of the village itself. If you would like to explore Todenham through more than its buildings, the two field names provide an additional point of reference for its settlement history.

A bridleway runs from Shipston-on-Stour to Todenham. If you plan to use it, check the latest conditions on the route in advance, as the conditions of individual rights of way may change.
