Park or trail?
Horsham offers two options for spending time outdoors, each on a different scale. Horsham Park includes the Human Nature Garden and is easily reached on foot from the town centre. The Horsham Riverside Walk, by contrast, is a 13-mile circular route that almost encircles Horsham on paths along various waterways. The distinction is clear when planning: a visit to a park within the town, or a long loop where the route itself is a key part of the outing.
The circular route also passes several historic sites, including the remains of a motte-and-bailey castle. This combines a longer walk with specific historical stops. If you would like to take in some of Horsham’s past as well as get some exercise, this route offers a point of interest. The Human Nature Garden in the park offers another way to combine green space with a visit to town.
Explore the town’s history
The Horsham Carfax War Memorial was erected in 1921 and is a Grade II listed building. A former town hall in Horsham dates from around 1812. Its administrative role goes back further: the site has been a seat of local government since the 17th century, and the administration has been based in this building since the 19th century. This helps distinguish the site’s earlier history from that of the later building.
Horsham Museum displays a wide variety of objects across more than 26 galleries. However, the timing of your visit is important: Horsham Museum & Art Gallery is closed from 7 September 2026 to 5 January 2027 for essential repairs to its historic roof. If you are visiting during this period, the museum is not an option; for other travel dates, check before planning a visit.
Markets and cultural events
The choice of market depends on your interests: Carfax Local Market offers international street food, while West Street Horsham Arts and Crafts Market sells handmade crafts. Their focus differs considerably: one centres on food, the other on handcrafted goods. This offers a practical guide when deciding which type of market visit best suits your stay.
The Broadwood Day of Dance is a recurring event in Horsham town centre. The 2026 event was announced as its 34th-year return, with Morris dancing, live music and a community programme. If the date matters for your travel plans, check the events calendar in advance.
The Capitol in Horsham offers theatre, film, family entertainment and live performances. It adds a different kind of cultural attraction to the historic sites and markets. If you would like to plan a show or film, check the programme for your travel dates.
