Gourock is a small coastal town that stretches along a bend in the Firth of Clyde. For planning your trip, the waterfront walk and cycling routes offer different route options; the outdoor pool and Gourock Park each have their own highlights. Two ferry terminals with services to Argyll also make onward travel by ferry an option to consider.

Waterfront Walk, Cycling Routes and Ferries

A roughly 6.5-kilometre, flat waterfront walk runs from Gourock via Lunderston Bay to Inverkip. Along the River Clyde, you can enjoy views of boats and ferries. Its approximate length and flat route distinguish this waterfront path from the national cycle routes.

The directions of the cycle routes differ: NCR75 runs through the centre of Gourock and heads east via Kilmacolm and Paisley to North Lanarkshire. NCR753 heads north from Gourock to Inverkip. You can distinguish the routes by their direction and the places named. Check local signs and conditions before planning a cycle route.

Gourock has two ferry terminals with services to Argyll. If you plan to include a ferry in your trip, check the operator and timetables before travelling. The ferry services are therefore a separate planning option alongside the land routes described above.

Heated Outdoor Pool by the Water

The heated outdoor pool by the water in Gourock was built in 1909. Gourock Outdoor Pool has a heated saltwater pool with a water temperature of 29 °C and views of the Clyde Estuary. Accessibility has been improved for people with disabilities. The pool offers a different kind of waterside experience from the waterfront walk: here, the focus is on the pool and its temperature, while the walk is about the route and the views.

Gourock Park: From Garden to Amphitheatre

The history of Gourock Park begins with the land around Gourock House. It was gifted to the local people as Darroch Park and later renamed Gourock Park. Today, the park has an animal area and a large play area. A walled garden with a variety of plants and shrubs offers a different focus; performances and other shows take place in the amphitheatre. The play and animal areas, garden and performance venue can therefore be enjoyed as distinct highlights. If you would like to attend a performance during your stay, check the event dates.

Sailing and Club Life

The Royal Gourock Yacht Club offers sailors and like-minded members of the community a year-round calendar of social and training events. Members have access to sailing opportunities and social facilities in a historic clubhouse by the water. The club also offers moorings with access to a dinghy; confirm availability directly with the club. If you are interested in an event, check its date in advance.
