The Invergordon Mural Trail runs from Invergordon railway station up the High Street to the Invergordon Naval Museum & Heritage Centre. This gives the route a clear starting point and a destination in the town. Along the trail are eleven large-scale, professionally painted murals, as well as sculptures. Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal officially opened the trail in September 2007. There is no admission charge for the trail. Check the latest visitor information before your visit, as its opening status may change.

History at the Museum

At the trail’s endpoint, the museum brings together several topics relating to the town’s history and wartime past. It features a memorial exhibition about HMS Natal, which was destroyed by a fatal explosion in the Cromarty Firth on 30 December 1915. The Invergordon Naval Museum & Heritage Centre also covers the Invergordon Mutiny and the history of the Polish camp in Invergordon during the Second World War. The history of a shipwreck and other topics from the town’s past come together here. If you are interested in a particular exhibition topic, check the latest museum information in advance, as the exhibits may change. Bus route 25 stops directly outside the museum. As bus arrangements may change, check the current timetable before travelling.

Church and Memorials

Invergordon Parish Church and the Church Hall were originally built as a Free Church; both are listed buildings in category B. During the First World War, the Church Hall served as a temporary hospital. The buildings’ history therefore combines their original purpose with a specific wartime use.

The Polish Forces Memorial in Invergordon commemorates Polish forces stationed there during the Second World War. It has a different focus from the museum, which covers the history of the Polish camp in Invergordon. Those interested in Polish wartime history will find two distinct subjects here: the forces stationed in the town and the history of the camp.

Golf overlooking the Cromarty Firth

Invergordon Golf Club has an 18-hole course overlooking the Cromarty Firth. The club also has a 9-hole course and a shortened 18-hole course for juniors. For planning purposes, the options can be distinguished by hole count and junior format: alongside the 9-hole course, there is a specifically shortened 18-hole option. If you are planning to play golf, you can take these different formats into account when choosing your round.

The former Invergordon Castle estate

The former Invergordon Castle estate adds a designed landscape to the town’s history. It had extensive woodland, a park and gardens. The American Garden on the estate included extensive paved paths through wooded grounds. These features describe the former estate and offer insight into its historic design.

When looking for a hotel in Invergordon, you can start by deciding what you want to focus on during your stay: the Mural Trail and museum, architectural and wartime history, or golf each offer a different theme.
