Langho combines distinctive church architecture with golf and views across the Ribble Valley. When planning your trip, you can look at the area from different perspectives: St Mary and historic buildings tell the story of different periods of construction, while the railway station offers views of Pendle Hill, and the Ribble Valley Jubilee Trail adds a multi-stage hiking option. Before looking for a holiday rental, you can weigh up whether culture, golf or scenery should be the focus of your stay.

Valley Views and a Multi-Stage Hike

Langho railway station serves Old Langho, Langho and York. From there, you can enjoy views into and across the Ribble Valley, particularly of Pendle Hill. A longer hiking option is the Ribble Valley Jubilee Trail: the circular walking route is 65 miles long and divided into seven stages. It offers views across the Ribble Valley, over Langho, neighbouring Whalley and Billington, towards Clitheroe, and of the River Ribble. The station views and long-distance trail offer different perspectives on the landscape; the number of stages also gives a clear idea of how the trail is structured.

Churches from Different Periods

St Mary in Langho was opened by the bishop on 12 September 1959. The church follows a modern neo-Gothic design by Desmond Williams. Inside, it has large load-bearing pointed brick arches—a striking detail that differs from the usual idea of stone church arches.

In Old Langho stands St Leonard’s Church, completed in 1557. Its high-quality stonework and exceptional late-17th-century pew ends offer a further glimpse of older church architecture. Access is via the paved path through the churchyard. Check opening times before your visit.

Historic Houses and Their Details

The houses in the surrounding area also display a variety of architectural styles. Potter Ford Farmhouse dates from 1610; a chamfered fireplace bears the inscription “EC 1610”, and a timber-framed wall has an original doorway. Rileys Farmhouse is an early- to mid-18th-century sandstone house with mullioned windows.

Mytton Fold Farmhouse dates from 1702. It features weather-struck sandstone masonry, mullioned windows and axial ceiling beams with an ovolo profile. In the centre of Langho stands Lower Woodcock Farmhouse, south of Whalley Road. The building is Grade II listed. Its period, materials and individual architectural features offer different points of interest if you are interested in the area’s architectural heritage.

Golf and Footgolf

Mytton Fold Golf Club in Langho has an 18-hole golf course. Footgolf at the club combines golf and football in a game for all ages. The activities are clearly different in format: on one hand, golf on an 18-hole course; on the other, an activity that brings the two sports together. This gives golf enthusiasts a clear choice without requiring the activities to be combined into a single programme.
