Stapelfeld borders Hamburg directly; at the same time, the town is home to a designated natural area, Stapelfelder Moor. Transport links to Hamburg are considered convenient. If you are weighing proximity to the city against access to natural landscapes, you can take these two features of the town into account.

Stapelfelder Moor

Stapelfelder Moor is a nature reserve that includes adjoining meadows and forests. A 3.9-kilometre circular route runs around the moor. Walkers, cyclists and horse riders can use it, subject to the nature reserve’s rules. The route connects the path to the moor in Stapelfeld with a field track in Barsbüttel. Before your visit, check the rules currently in force for the nature reserve.

Höltigbaum: a different landscape

The Stormarn section of the cross-border Höltigbaum nature reserve lies directly east of Stapelfeld. Its landscape includes grassland, sandy heathland, hedgerows, smaller wooded areas and valleys that dry out seasonally. Numerous hiking trails pass through semi-open grazing landscapes maintained with cattle, sheep and goats. A hiking trail improves the connection between the nearby nature reserve and the surrounding landscape. The Haus der Wilden Weiden provides public information about the area. If you would like to explore grazing landscapes and hiking trails as well as the circular route around the moor, you will find a different kind of nature experience here.

Hotel, cuisine and local character

Stapelfelder Hof combines a restaurant with hotel accommodation. It serves traditional Greek cuisine and homemade dishes, which are also available to take away. Facilities for private celebrations are available too. The Hof offers free parking and step-free access. Check the facilities before visiting; if you are considering staying there overnight, confirm availability before booking. Kratzmannsche Kate is also associated with Stapelfeld’s local character.

Stormarn as a wider setting

The wider destination of Stormarn broadens the focus from individual trails to a regional offering. Stormarn has more than 20 circular cycling routes as well as BahnRadWege along disused railway lines. The hiking options include many short and long circular routes, among them the Stormarnweg and the Jakobsweg. Extensive forests and moorlands also shape the destination. The 3.9 kilometres of the Stapelfelder Moor circular route are thus set against a wider choice of trails in Stormarn—two different scales to consider when planning a stay.

Stormarn also offers additional points of interest for culture and regional produce. Ahrensburg Castle in Stormarn was completed in 1585 and has served continuously as a museum since 1955. Farm shops in Stormarn sell regional produce, while farm cafés offer local culinary products. These regional themes complement the picture of Stapelfeld without replacing the local features of the moorland or Stapelfelder Hof.
