Rausdorf lies on the Corbek, among meadows, fields and wooded hills, at the edge of the Grander Tannen. These are considered foothills of the Stormarn Switzerland. Walking trails, riding trails and cycling routes offer different ways to explore the countryside – from the local trail network to longer tours through Stormarn.

Countryside along the Corbek

Rausdorf is part of the Corbek, Brunsteichbach and Brunsbach landscape conservation area. Its southeastern section runs along the Corbek between Rausdorf and Witzhave. The protected area lies where the Geest meets the hill country. As a result, open spaces and wooded hills around the village meet in a landscape shaped by several streams.

Rausdorf has walking and riding trails. If you want to explore the surrounding area on foot, there are local trails to choose from; when planning individual routes, take the relevant conditions into account. The riding trails connect the local offerings to a wider landscape: the riding area around Rausdorf includes the Sachsenwald, Hahnheide and Grander Tannen. Access and conditions may vary.

Cycling tours with different highlights

The Stormarn Cycling Tour 21 is 31 kilometres long and passes through landscapes with streams and lowland corridors, as well as through the Sachsenwald. On its field section, it reaches the Brunsbach shortly before Rausdorf, where it flows into the Corbek. The route length provides a specific reference point for planning your tour; the section along the Brunsbach connects the route with the river landscape near Rausdorf.

Another cycling tour from Trittau passes through valleys, along old railway embankments, through forests and past lakes in the Stormarn Switzerland. This route includes a winding, tree-lined stretch of the Brunsbach beyond Rausdorf. The tours offer different points of reference: Tour 21 specifies its length and the Sachsenwald, while the route from Trittau is defined by its succession of valleys, railway embankments, forests and lakes.

Horse riding and riding facilities

Rausdorf has several riding stables. Check availability before your trip if visiting a stable is part of your plans. The Rausdorf Riding and Driving Club (Reit- und Fahrverein Rausdorf e.V.) has two indoor arenas, an outdoor riding arena and a grass show-jumping course. Prior arrangements may be required for non-members wishing to use the club facilities.

There are options for horse riding both on trails in the countryside and at specific facilities in the village. It is important to distinguish between the two when deciding: the riding area around Rausdorf includes the Sachsenwald, Hahnheide and Grander Tannen, while the indoor arenas and outdoor facilities belong to the club. Check the applicable conditions in advance for your planned use.

Stormarn as a wider setting

In the wider travel destination of Stormarn, Hahnheide offers a distinct hiking option: it is Stormarn’s largest nature reserve and has hiking opportunities. Hahnheide is characterised mainly by hilly woodland, along with small valleys, streams and hollows. This landscape provides regional context and should not be confused with the trail network in Rausdorf.

Ahrensburg Castle is also part of the wider travel destination of Stormarn. It was completed in 1585 and has been continuously used as a museum since 1955. In addition to Rausdorf’s countryside and riding attractions, the region offers a nature reserve and a historic cultural site, each appealing to different interests when planning a trip.
