Delingsdorf has several sides to it: history around Kannenplatz, a green corridor along the Strusbek and a farming landscape. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can explore the village according to what matters most for your stay: local history, rural activities or specific agricultural and cultural offerings.
History and Village Character in Delingsdorf
Delingsdorf was first mentioned as “Dedelmestorpe” on 21 March 1327. Around 1940, Kannenplatz was the village centre, with workshops belonging to shoemakers, blacksmiths and carpenters around it. These workshops offer a tangible glimpse of the centre at the time and its craft traditions.
The bakehouse at Kannenplatz was built between 1998 and 2000 on the initiative of Hans-Werner and with help from local supporters. Hans-Werner and local volunteers also restored an old equipment shed and converted it into a café. The workshops from around 1940 and the bakehouse built later represent different periods in the life of the village.
Traditional brick buildings are part of the village’s character; some houses with thatched roofs stand along the main roads. Delingsdorf is also shaped by its historic village centre and war memorial. The memorial has remained virtually unchanged to this day. In terms of transport history, the Hamburg–Lübeck railway opened to traffic on 1 August 1865.
Hedgerow Landscape, the Strusbek and Agriculture
The Strusbek runs through the centre of Delingsdorf and, together with the surrounding landscape features, forms a green corridor. Traditional hedgerows have largely been preserved in Delingsdorf. The farming landscape offers opportunities for hiking and cycling; strawberry growing and horse breeding are also characteristic features of this rural village. Delingsdorf thus brings together landscape and agriculture with the historic landmarks in the village centre.
Agriculture and Local Offerings
At Buchenhof, Angus, Longhorn and Wagyu cattle are kept outdoors all year round. The small farm shop sells certified organic meat directly, and visitors are welcome to look around the farm. Since farming practices, the farm shop’s offerings and visitor arrangements may change, check the current options in advance.
DeliKino also brings a regular cultural offering to the village: in Delingsdorf’s multi-purpose hall, it screens two films for children and young people about every eight weeks. Screening dates may change, so check the latest dates before your visit.
Stormarn as a Wider Destination

It has more than 20 circular cycling routes, as well as BahnRadWege cycling paths along disused railway lines. Hiking options include many short and long circular trails, including the Stormarnweg and the Way of St James. Castles, estates and manor houses are also part of Stormarn’s cultural offering. You can focus your stay on Delingsdorf’s village history and rural character, or include other themes from the wider destination in your plans.
