Elskop is defined by a village street that runs along one side: large farm buildings stand on the north side, with fields to the south. This clear layout gives visitors a concrete starting point. The village is also connected to the Krempermarsch, with its listed buildings and routes offering different perspectives on the village and the marshland.

Elskop and the Krempermarsch

Elskop is connected to the Krempermarsch, the marshland between the Stör and the Krückau. The region was drained and resettled in the 13th century. This history provides the regional backdrop for Elskop and its marshland landscape. The village can therefore also be viewed in the context of how the landscape developed, not just through its present-day layout.

Listed farm buildings

Elskop’s listed buildings include a Fachhallenhaus (a traditional hall house) at Altendeich 104 and a Bargscheune (a traditional type of barn) at Dorfstraße 5. These two named building types bring rural architectural heritage to life at specific addresses. Visitors interested in historic farm buildings can explore this distinct aspect of the village. The different names and addresses make it easy to tell the two buildings apart.

Walking with views of the village and marshland

The Krempe walking route offers a view of Elskop, a linear marshland village that stretches from farm to farm in an east–west direction. Circular Route 3 runs around Krempe, is varied and offers sweeping views across the marshland. The routes thus offer different highlights: the Krempe walking route focuses on views of Elskop, while Circular Route 3 turns the attention to the marshland panorama around Krempe.

Cycling the Marschhof Tour

The Marschhof Tour is an easy, 25-kilometre circular cycling route through the Kremper Marsch. It starts and ends at the historic market square in Krempe, passes through Elskop and continues towards Krempdorf-Altendeich and Borsfleth. Krempe is therefore both the starting point and the destination, while Elskop lies along the route. The section through Elskop is known for its very quiet marshland; there are occasional benches there. The characteristic marshland farmsteads are particularly impressive along this section. A green marshland farmstead symbol on a white background marks the route. Check the current signs before setting off, as the route marking may change.

Getting to the starting point in Krempe

The regional train from Itzehoe to Krempe takes about ten minutes. From Krempe station, it’s about a 10- to 15-minute walk to the historic market square, where the Marschhof Tour starts and ends. Taking the train and walking are the two steps to reach this starting point. Check the timetable and walking route before travelling, as train services and routes may change.

Homemade ice cream in Elskop

Hof Hochgenuss in Elskop is known for its homemade ice cream. As its visitor offerings may change, check whether ice cream is currently available before visiting.
