Discover Rumohr through its hiking trails and moorland: The village lies partly within Westensee Nature Park, and several named routes run through the municipality. The wider nature park area also has circular hiking and cycling routes. These different scales offer guidance if you are considering Rumohr as a destination for your stay.

Hiking trails through Rumohr and the nature park area

The E1 European long-distance path runs through the municipality of Rumohr, as does the North–Baltic Sea Hiking Trail. A route maintained by the North German Hiking Association also crosses the municipal area.

There are 17 mapped circular hiking trails in the Westensee Nature Park tourism area. This figure refers to the tourism area, not to Rumohr alone. The nature park area also has marked hiking trails, public field and forest paths, and four themed cycling routes. Cycling maps provide further information. If you are planning a particular route, check the current maps and route availability before setting out. This will help you distinguish the trails through the municipality from those available across the wider area and plan accordingly.

Moorland and local history

Moorland can still be found in Rumohr and Rotenhahn. The name of the village also reflects this landscape: Rumohr derives from “rough moor.” The name Rummore is documented in 1245. The moorland is therefore not only part of the landscape, but also a theme that recurs in the village’s history.

The coat of arms represents the municipality’s wetland with a wavy bar. The two herons can be understood historically as references to Rumohr and Rotenhahn. Together with the story behind the name, the coat-of-arms motifs tell of the importance of the moorland to the municipality.

Westensee Nature Park as a landscape

The nearby Westensee Nature Park is characterised by a landscape shaped by the Ice Age, with gentle hills, valleys, meadows, forests, lakes and moors. The nature park includes small nature reserves and forest nature trails with information boards. If you want to explore a wider natural area as well as the trails through Rumohr, this offers another level to consider when planning: the landscape, protected areas and signposted nature trails shape what is on offer.

Another viewpoint in the region is TĂĽteberg. From there, the panoramic view stretches across Westensee towards Kiel.

A different perspective on the water

If you are considering an activity other than hiking for part of your trip, you could also take a canoe or kayak tour on the Eiderring Canal. The tours can head towards the Kiel Canal or Westensee.

Rendsburg-Eckernförde on a larger scale

The wider destination of Rendsburg-Eckernförde offers another sense of scale for outdoor activities: the signposted cycling network is 1,000 kilometres long. The 180-kilometre Nature Park Hiking Trail passes through the district’s four nature parks. These figures refer to the district of Rendsburg-Eckernförde and add a regional perspective to the trails in Rumohr.
