Nehmten is located right on the Great Plön Lake and is part of the Holstein Switzerland Nature Park. The municipality has marked trails for hiking, cycling, riding and horse-drawn carriage rides. There are various circular routes to choose from when planning your day: their stated distances and walking times help you select a shorter or longer tour.

Circular routes by duration and landscape

The Gut Nehmten circular route is 8.97 kilometres long and takes about 2 hours and 13 minutes. It starts at the car park by the Im Sande bus stop in Nehmten. The route passes through meadows and the Tensfelder Au lowlands to HornsmĂĽhlen, then follows the wooded shore of Lake Stocksee on the return leg.

For a longer hike, the Nehmtener Horn circular route is another option: it is 15.4 kilometres long, with a stated duration of 3 hours and 52 minutes. The two routes differ considerably in both distance and the time needed. When planning, it is worth checking the route details for the Nehmtener Horn circular route again.

Lake Stocksee, rolling hills and nature watching

The Lake Stocksee circular route heads towards Ziegelhof Nehmten and follows the shore of Lake Stocksee through woodland and pastureland. It passes through gently rolling countryside shaped by the Ice Age. Elevated viewpoints offer views across Lake Stocksee; with a little luck, you may spot tufted ducks and other waterbirds there. Sightings are seasonal and not guaranteed. A possible detour leads to a bathing spot with a jetty and views across the lake.

The Sepeler Kliff also combines landscape and nature watching. The Nehmtener Horn circular route includes the Sepeler Kliff Special Area of Conservation and runs below the cliff by the water to protect this sensitive habitat. A narrow path climbs about 25 metres and opens up wide views across the Great Plön Lake. Sepeler Kliff is a former shoreline of Lake Plön; rare plants such as wild thyme, maiden pink and restharrow bloom on the nutrient-poor soil from June to September. Possible sightings at the cliff also include waterfowl on Lake Plön, red-backed shrikes and white-tailed eagles. These sightings are seasonal and cannot be reliably planned.

Woodland, riding trails and regional highlights

Nehmtener Wald is one of the larger contiguous woodland areas in Schleswig-Holstein. About half of its area consists of deciduous forest. A renaturation project for 116 hectares of meadows is planned along the Tensfelder Au. This landscape adds another natural area to the trails that pass through meadows, lowlands and wooded shores.

Gut Nehmten has been family-owned since 1768. Together with the municipality of Nehmten, it offers a free, interconnected network of riding trails spanning more than 15 kilometres. The trails pass through fields and meadows as well as deciduous and coniferous forest; some sections run alongside the Great Plön Lake and Lake Stocksee.

Gut Nehmten sells portioned, frozen game meat directly from the estate, including fallow deer, roe deer and wild boar, as well as grilled sausages and salami. If you plan to buy directly from the estate, it is best to check availability before your visit.
