If you choose Panker for a stay, you can focus on the history of its manor village, scenic views or outdoor activities. Gut Panker is a historic ensemble comprising several buildings; the landscape features Baltic Sea views and walking paths. Hessenstein and a circular route with views of Hohwacht Bay offer different kinds of scenery. You can tailor your stay to the interests that matter most to you.

Manor Estate History and Manor Village

Gut Panker is a historic estate and has been owned by the Landgraves of Hesse since the 18th century. The castle, chapel, gatehouse and farm buildings form an extensive complex. The historic focus is therefore on an ensemble of several types of buildings, not just the castle.

Panker is also home to one of the few fully preserved manor village ensembles in Schleswig-Holstein. Art galleries are part of the visitor experience in Panker; shops and a gallery are located in former farm buildings on the estate. Commercial offerings associated with former farm buildings on the estate may change. Gestüt Panker, a stud farm, is also considered a visitor attraction; its visitor arrangements may change.

Views and Walking Paths

Hessenstein is a 20-metre-high observation tower commissioned by Landgrave Friedrich of Hesse in 1839. It stands on Pilsberg, one of the highest elevations in Schleswig-Holstein. On a clear day, the view extends across the Baltic Sea to Denmark. A different view can be enjoyed on a circular route through the Trakehner stud farm and the surrounding fields: from there, you can look out over Hohwacht Bay.

The circular route is a distinctive landscape feature for walks; its route and local accessibility may change. Check local conditions before setting out. Hohwacht and Lütjenburg are possible destinations for bike rides from Panker. Route conditions and signage can also change, so it is worth checking the current route before you start.

For your journey, note that there are no direct bus connections to Panker. Check current public transport connections before you travel. This lets you plan your journey separately from your choice of walking paths and viewpoints, without assuming a particular duration or level of difficulty for the bike rides.

Plön as a Wider Travel Region

The wider travel destination of Plön offers a broader regional setting. Plön District lies between the Baltic Sea and Holstein Switzerland and has around 50 kilometres of Baltic coastline. The district has around 80 lakes, including Lake Großer Plöner See, covering 29 square kilometres, and Lake Selenter See, covering 22 square kilometres. The coast and lakes offer different focal points for regional travel planning.

Swimming is possible along the Baltic coast of Plön District, from Mönkeberg to Sehlendorfer Strand. The district’s coast also offers sailing, surfing, diving, boat trips, offshore sailing trips, fishing boat excursions and surf fishing. Large parts of the district lie within Holstein Switzerland Nature Park, which covers 75,000 hectares and offers opportunities to enjoy nature and see rare animals.

Cycling and hiking tours are also part of the regional offering in Plön District, whose landscape is gently undulating. The district’s signposted cycle route network covers 850 kilometres; there are also developed Nordic walking trails. These wider regional opportunities complement Panker’s specific themes of manor culture, scenic views and walking paths with further travel-planning options.
