Moorrege offers several different themes for a short stay: beekeeping and natural history, architectural history, a modern church, and time for a swim at the Oberglinde natural swimming pool. If you are looking for accommodation, you can first consider which focus you would like to shape your stay.
Bees, Local History and Sacred Architecture
The Moorrege Bee Museum is considered the only bee museum in Schleswig-Holstein. It is devoted to bees, colonies and beekeeping. A glass observation hive makes life inside a bee colony visible; beekeeping equipment adds the practical work with bees to the subject.
The town’s history also goes back further: Moorrege lies on an old trading and cattle-driving route. The independent Moorrege-Heist municipality was established in Moorrege in 1954. St. Michael, in turn, is a modern church dating from the 1960s. Its furnishings include a figure of the Archangel Michael and a stained-glass window depicting the twelve gates of Jerusalem. Visits outside regular services are possible if local staff are available; please check in advance whether a visit is possible.
Architectural History Between Villa and Swing Bridge
As of January 1, 2026, the industrialist’s villa “Schloß Düneck” at Klinkerstraße 28 in Moorrege is classified as a villa-style residential architectural monument. It was built in 1871 and is surrounded by a 3.6-hectare park with wildlife, a tea house, an orangery and a fishpond. Architecturally, the Schloss combines Château style, Victorian and Neo-Grec elements with North German brickwork—a combination of different design traditions.
The piano nobile includes a gallery hall with a Steinway concert grand, a library and a conservatory. Schloss Düneck is primarily private and only occasionally open to the public; interior visits depend on the public programme. Check in advance whether a visit is possible. Events held there have included celebrations, picnics in the park, music and art events, culinary offerings, tea gatherings and discussion groups. The events programme may change, so it is advisable to check the latest dates.
Another technical structure is the Klevendeich swing bridge over the Pinnau between Neuendeich and Moorrege-Klevendeich. It was built in 1887 and is a technical monument. One of its steel truss spans swings open for shipping. The bridge is among the oldest surviving swing bridges in Europe.
Oberglinde Natural Swimming Pool and Getting There
The Oberglinde natural swimming pool is in the district of the same name, beside a former gravel pit lake whose shore is surrounded by greenery. Water quality is checked regularly. Children can splash and learn to swim along the gently sloping shore; there is also a beach volleyball court. Admission is free. Opening, water quality, court availability and admission arrangements may change: check the latest information before your visit.
Bus route 6663 connects Uetersen-Buttermarkt with Pinneberg station and stops at Moorrege, Oberglinde. From this stop, it is about a five-minute walk to the natural swimming pool. Timetables and stops may change; check the connection before travelling. The walking route and signage may also change.
