Pelzerhaken combines a sandy beach just over two kilometres long with a varied coastal landscape and a range of ways to spend a day on holiday. You can stroll along the beach, use the dune walkway, walk out to sea along the pier, or make watersports the focus of your day. Short walks in the forest and a guided amber tour are also among the local activities.

Coast between beach and nature reserve

Pelzerhaken has the only south-facing beach in Lübeck Bay. The sandy beach is just over two kilometres long and is ideal for extended walks. The pier offers a different perspective: it extends exactly 135 metres out from the shore; at its end, you are surrounded by the sea on all sides. This gives you a choice between a longer walk along the beach and a clearly defined walk out along the pier as two distinct coastal experiences.

Between Pelzerhaken and Rettin lies an FFH (Natura 2000) area containing a complete sequence of characteristic landscape types. These include a former cliff, now covered in woodland; a former lagoon depression, now used as grassland; a coastal dune and beach-ridge system; and a beach in front of it. The names also reflect how this landscape has changed: the former cliff is now wooded, and the former lagoon depression is used as grassland. The Pelzerhaken chapel, on the highest elevation, is another distinctive local landmark beyond the shoreline.

Walks with different focuses

The dune walkway runs along the beach and provides accessible walks, including for people with pushchairs and wheelchairs. For longer distances, the sandy beach, just over two kilometres long, is a good option; for a short walk, the small Dittmer forest is an alternative. Its paths are suitable for short walks or a quick dog walk. Depending on your plans for the day, you can choose between the open beach landscape and a smaller woodland area.

Watersports and ParkGolf

Sail&Surf Pelzerhaken offers courses in windsurfing, catamaran sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, kitesurfing and wingfoiling. The shallow water at the surf schools is also suitable for beginners. Sail&Surf also provides training for the internationally recognised VDWS licence. Course offerings may vary, so check in advance what is available during your visit.

On land, the ParkGolf facility offers a different activity, with a total of 12 walkable holes. This is a clearly defined alternative if you don’t want your day to be all about the beach and watersports.

Guided tour and practical planning

An amber tour is planned for the 2026–2027 season on Pelzerhaken beach. It covers the formation, history and significance of amber. Together with nature guide Martin C. Roos, you will also search for amber along the Baltic Sea coast. Registration is required; check the dates before your trip.

Larger parking areas near the beach are listed at Dünenweg (P15), Auf der Pelzerwiese / Surf City (P13), and Strandweg in Rettin (P10). As parking arrangements may change, check the information before setting off. Discover more destinations: Rettin.
