Kellenhusen (Baltic Sea) offers a range of options for planning your trip: the 600-hectare forest is ideal for hiking, cycling and horse riding, while the promenade and pier offer relaxation, sports and seasonal excursions. Consider what you would like to focus on: nature trails, activities by the water or time out at sea.

Forest trails and nature activities

Kellenhusen Forest offers space for hiking, cycling and horse riding. Its attractions include a forest pond, a forest playground and a nature trail with 23 information boards. The information boards may be updated over time. The forest also has a wild boar enclosure that is open to visitors free of charge.

The nature activities range from cycling or horse riding to spending time by the forest pond and visiting the enclosure. If you enjoy walking, you can combine a hike with the nature trail; if you prefer other activities, the forest also offers opportunities for cycling and horse riding. You can choose which activities to focus on based on your interests, without having to follow a set programme.

The promenade: relax or get active

The promenade combines features to admire and places to rest with a wide range of leisure activities. Features include water displays, boulders from the Ice Age, rest areas, artificial dunes, a maze, fountains and fish sculptures. For exercise, there are playgrounds, a skate park and a disc golf course with 22 baskets. Multi-purpose sports areas add to the facilities, including options for beach soccer and beach volleyball.

The promenade offers different ways to spend your free time: you can plan a break, admire its features or choose from the sports activities. The playgrounds offer another option alongside the skate park and sports areas. You can decide for yourself which of these options will shape your day.

The pier and its three themed islands

The 305-metre-long pier has three islands that visitors can walk around. One has hammocks and steps leading down to the water, while another has a swimming and diving area. The third features a covered viewing platform and a boat landing. Each island has a different focus: relax, get in the water or enjoy the view from the platform.

In summer, excursions depart from the landing for destinations including Dahme and Fehmarn. As excursion services may vary by season, it is advisable to check departure times for your travel dates. The seasonal trips complement the activities on the pier, whose three islands also offer different ways to spend time by the water.

At Cismar Monastery in the municipality of Grömitz, there are changing exhibitions and concerts in the vaulted hall during the winter season. The Natureum Steinwarder nature experience park in Heiligenhafen offers something different: children and adults can experience nature with all their senses. These examples are part of the wider Ostholstein destination and broaden the focus on Kellenhusen’s attractions to include cultural and nature-related themes in other named locations.

Plan your stay around your interests
