Dassendorf offers specific topics to help you plan your visit: the Church of Reconciliation, local culture and events, and golf. Two giant beds on the edge of the forest add to the village’s character. You can plan your stay around your interests, whether you are most interested in church architecture, local cultural life or golf.

Church, Local History and Cultural Life

The Church of Reconciliation was built in 1960 to plans by architects Barbara and Wolfgang Vogt. Its four stained-glass windows depict scenes relating to Christmas or Epiphany, Good Friday, Easter and Ascension Day. The altar cross also has its own visual language: the enamel work symbolizes the four Evangelists. Visits to the Church of Reconciliation can be arranged through the parish office.

Local amenities include a public library and adult education activities. Events are organized by the cultural association, the senior citizens’ advisory council and local clubs. The multipurpose hall hosts events organized by the cultural association; an open-air brunch is also held there every year after the summer holidays. Cultural life therefore extends beyond church architecture to regular community gathering places.

Two giant beds are located on the edge of the forest, opposite the entrance to the golf club. They offer a different point of reference to the village’s history than the Church of Reconciliation and can be located by their position at the forest’s edge.

Golf, Sports and Dining

The Golf Club am Sachsenwald offers an 18-hole championship course and a 6-hole short course. The short course can be played without membership. Guests and beginners are welcome; the club also offers taster sessions and course qualification courses. Course arrangements, playing conditions and access rules may change. Check the club’s current rules and offerings in advance.

TuS Dassendorf also offers sporting activities in a former tennis hall, a school sports hall and on three sports fields, including an artificial turf pitch. The Golf Club’s Ristorante am Riesenbett serves Italian cuisine. As the restaurant’s offerings may change, check the latest information before your visit.

Getting Here and Finding Your Way

Dassendorf is connected by bus and, via the HVV network, to Aumühle S-Bahn station, about five kilometres away. From Aumühle, there are connections towards Hamburg, Geesthacht and Mölln. The approximate distance gives an idea of where the station is, but not of the journey time. Check the current timetables for your travel day.

The Wider Destination: Duchy of Lauenburg

The wider destination of the Duchy of Lauenburg offers a broader perspective on the landscape. Forests cover 26 percent of the Duchy of Lauenburg district, which also has 48 lakes. The district is also home to the Sachsenwald, the largest contiguous forest in Schleswig-Holstein. These landscape figures describe the district and should be distinguished from Dassendorf’s local cultural and sporting attractions.

In the Lauenburg Lakes Nature Park, visitors will find hiking trails, observation towers, nature trails and places to rest. Visitors can hike, cycle, canoe and swim in forest lakes. For a different kind of exploration, the Old Salt Route runs from Lauenburg to Lübeck along the Elbe-Lübeck Canal, following the route of a medieval salt trade route. These regional attractions complement Dassendorf’s local highlights with nature and cycling opportunities in the Duchy of Lauenburg.
