A natural beach adjoins Borgsum to the south; Lembecksburg lies around one kilometre north of the village. Other attractions include a seasonal corn maze, adventure golf, and places to eat and shop. This combination of archaeological heritage, beach and activities offers several reasons to consider Borgsum as a place to stay on Föhr.

Lembecksburg: rampart and remains of houses

Borgsumburg, also known as Lembecksburg, stands on a geest hill surrounded by marshland. The ring rampart is almost eight metres high, and its inner diameter is just under 100 metres. Lembecksburg is considered an archaeological monument and is dated to the 9th or 10th century. Excavations inside revealed the remains of several well-preserved houses with turf walls. They date from the 8th to the 11th century.

The dates refer to different findings: the date of the 9th or 10th century applies to the ring rampart, while the house remains are attributed to a longer period. At Lembecksburg, the layout of the site and traces of earlier houses can therefore be seen side by side. You can also plan a picnic on the grounds.

Seasonal attractions and adventure golf

The Föhr corn maze in Borgsum is a seasonal attraction. The route through thousands of corn plants is approximately 3.5 kilometres long. Adventure golf has different dimensions: the course has 18 holes and a total length of 350 metres. These details help distinguish the two activities—a route through the corn maze and a round on the golf course are different ways to spend time outdoors.

Adventure Golf also has a viewing point overlooking Lembecksburg and the corn maze. The individual golf holes include brief explanations of local history. The course thus combines play with short historical insights, while the view takes in the neighbouring sights.

The Adventure Golf & Corn Maze site also has swings, a trampoline, table tennis, table football, slides and a large sandy area. Cakes and gateaux from Borgsumer Landbäcker can also be enjoyed on site. The corn maze is a seasonal attraction. If you want to include it in your day’s plans, please check its current availability.

Village life and a distinctive mill

Borgsum has several restaurants and cafés where you can stop for a meal, as well as farm shops. Alongside the attractions, the village therefore offers places to eat and shop. As businesses and their offerings can change, it is advisable to check current opening hours and offerings before planning a specific visit.

Another distinctive building is Borgsum Mill. It is privately owned, was built in 1992 and is visible from afar. Stopping to look at the mill is one way to include a single building in your visit between activities.

Cycling and travelling to Föhr

Borgsum is centrally located in Föhr’s cycle network. The island as a whole has more than 200 kilometres of signposted cycle paths and five themed routes. These figures refer to different scales: Borgsum’s position in the network on the one hand, and cycling options across Föhr as a whole on the other. If you are planning a bike ride, you can first choose an island route and then match your choice of location to your interests in the ring rampart, beach or seasonal attractions.

Getting there is also a matter of planning your trip to the island: Föhr can only be reached by ship or by air. The W.D.R. catamaran provides a fast passenger connection between Föhr, Amrum and Dagebüll and is chartered to its partner Adler-Schiffe. Timetables and availability can change, so check the current timetable before finalising your travel plans.
