Wormsleben can be explored through several clearly distinct themes: the Church of the Holy Cross represents a specific chapter of architectural history, the Riß shapes the landscape immediately north of the village, and from a hill above, views stretch across the vineyards. When planning your visit, it helps to decide whether you would like to focus on architecture, a walk, a viewpoint or a picnic spot.
Church history in the village landscape
The architectural origins of the Church of the Holy Cross date back to the year 838. A Romanesque round-arched doorway bears witness to the historic church, with a cross visible in the tympanum. The arch and cross give the building a distinctive architectural accent. Wormsleben’s former role is also part of its history: the village was once a major ecclesiastical centre in the northern Hosgau.
Steep slope, views and a picnic
The Riß is a steep slope about 20 kilometres long, rising immediately north of Wormsleben. Alongside the building, it provides an extensive landscape feature in its own right. From the hill above Wormsleben, you can look out over the vineyards of Seeburger Himmelshöhe. The Riß and the view from the hill are distinct points of reference: one is a steep slope north of the village, the other a view across the vineyards.
The Nusspark lies on the edge of the village. A stone barbecue beneath the shade of light-canopied trees invites you to enjoy a picnic. This adds a specific place for a break in the green to the architecture and landscape. If you would like to include a picnic in your stay, the Nusspark is a named place to head for.
Walks and routes
The lightly trafficked road branching off from Wormsleben towards Hedersleben is suitable for a walk up to the loess plateau of the Mansfelder Platte. It offers a way to combine exercise with a route up to the plateau. This is different from taking a break in the Nusspark: here, the focus is on the walk; there, it is on a picnic beneath light-canopied trees.
The Luther Trail runs along the road connecting Wormsleben with Unterrißdorf. This links the trail to a specific road connection between the two villages. The European Long-Distance Cycle Route 11 also runs in the area of this connection between the villages.
Mansfelder Seen Wine Route
The Mansfelder Seen Wine Route passes through Lüttchendorf/Wormsleben. Along the route, wines can be sampled at numerous wineries and seasonal wine taverns. The wine theme complements the view across the vineyards of Seeburger Himmelshöhe with a focus on wine tasting: from the hill, you can see the wine-growing landscape, while tastings take place along the wine route. This gives you a choice between different ways to experience Wormsleben, each with its own focus: landscape views, walks, church history or a picnic.
