Oebisfelde-Weferlingen combines historic places with routes for cyclists and opportunities to explore nature. In Oebisfelde, sights range from the castle and the old town trail to the Green Belt; in Weferlingen, the history trail, museum and Lappwald forest take centre stage. When planning your trip, you can choose from cultural attractions, nature trails and longer cycling routes.

Castle, museums and history

The Castle and Local History Museum in Oebisfelde is housed in the castle’s former servants’ quarters and has 570 m² of exhibition space. Visitors can climb the castle tower: there are exhibitions inside and a telescope on the viewing platform. As access arrangements may change, check them before your visit. The old town trail also has its own waymarkers: signs point out historically significant sites, and there are bilingual QR codes. Those who would like to explore the sites with a guide can find tours of the museum, castle, old town and night watchman through the Oebisfelde Local History Association. Tour availability may change; check in advance. The renovated St. Nicholas Church is used for cultural events; the current programme may change.

In Weferlingen, the history trail passes historic buildings, with information boards providing explanations. The Local History and Pharmacy Museum displays old stove plates, a complete pharmacy interior dating from 1836 and a butterfly collection. Next to St. Lambert’s Church is a Baroque mausoleum commemorating Margrave Friedrich Christian of Kulmbach-Bayreuth. The church’s organ was built in 1857 by organ builder August Troch. In Walbeck, the ruins of the former collegiate church stand on Walbeck Cathedral Hill, along with two surviving watchtowers from the 13th century. They are known as the First and Second Walbeck Watches.

Cycling routes and nature experiences

When choosing a route, it is worth distinguishing between a circular route and a stage. The Drömling Circular Route is approximately 131 kilometres long and runs through the northern and southern Drömling. Oebisfelde is a possible starting point; it is also home to the biosphere reserve administration and the Drömling Information Centre. There is also an approximately 60-kilometre stage of the Aller Cycle Route from Oebisfelde to Eggenstedt, passing through Weferlingen. Near Seggerde, cyclists can continue towards Magdeburg on the Aller-Elbe Cycle Route. This gives you a choice between a circular route through both parts of the Drömling and a stage that offers the option of continuing onwards.

Oebisfelde lies directly on the Green Belt, where the Aller Cycle Route and EuroVelo 13 intersect. There is also an information point on the Aller Cycle Route for a cross-border route through three countries. The Aller Circular Route has information boards about flora and fauna and is also used as a jogging route. There is a designated nature trail at Dämmchen. In Weferlingen, Lappwald forest offers a place to relax for walkers and cyclists. The options therefore range from a longer cycling connection to nature and history themes linked to individual places.
