Staudt combines a themed trail exploring energy with a landscape of small volcanic cones and hills. It also has an activity park, a skate park and the history of the Old Church. When planning your visit, you can focus on different interests: nature and geology, outdoor activities or local history.

Landscape and Clay in the Kannenbäckerland

The landscape around Staudt includes small volcanic cones and hills rising from a basin consisting mostly of soft Tertiary clay. Staudt is also part of the Kannenbäckerland cultural landscape. Its clay pits are associated with the region’s “white gold”—a cultural connection to the clay that also shapes the local landscape.

The nearby Malberg is another point of interest in the landscape: at 422 metres, this phonolite cone is the highest point in the Montabaur Basin. Its landscape includes natural forests, rocks and boulder fields.

The Staudt Energy Trail

At several information points, the Staudt Energy Trail explains energy sources and how they are used. A particular highlight is the Energiewelt Staudt in the village centre. The themed trail is 8.7 kilometres long and has 19 marked stations with stamp machines for a card activity. Visitors can access quiz questions via QR codes. Alongside the information, there are various ways to engage with the subject.

Before your visit, it is worth checking route details, signage and facilities, as these may change; QR content and technology may also be updated. Parking for the Energy Trail is available in the village centre at HauptstraĂźe 21. Check local parking conditions before setting off.

Activity Park and Skate Park

Erbsengarten Activity Park is a nearly two-hectare, landscape-protected park created on the site of a former clay pit. Its facilities include open grassy areas, a cage soccer court, picnic and barbecue areas, outdoor fitness equipment, a dirt bike track and a bouldering tower. The park offers everything from open spaces to dedicated sports and climbing features.

Staudt Skate Park offers a different focus. Its features include a coping ramp, a curb, a small funbox and a coping. If you want to plan a variety of activities, you can visit these facilities as destinations in their own right, alongside the Energy Trail.

The Old Church and Its History

Staudt Old Church was built as a chapel in 1865 and extended in 1922/23. Construction of a new church began in 1958. After the new church was completed, the Old Church was used for storage; it was listed as a historic monument in the late 1980s. Its construction, extension and later use are distinct chapters in its history.

Plan Your Stay and Journey

Staudt has two motorhome pitches available year-round for vehicles up to 6.5 metres long. Charging stations for e-bikes and cars are available at the pitches. Since operating details may change, it is advisable to check the information before travelling.

Staudt is close to the A3 and B255; Montabaur ICE station is about two kilometres away. These details provide a sense of the location. Check current train connections and road conditions separately. This will help you coordinate your journey and choice of accommodation with your travel plans.

Clay in the Wider Westerwald Destination

In the wider Westerwald destination, the Westerwald Ceramics Museum also explores the subject of clay. It presents the history of working with clay; most of the objects on display originated in a Westerwald clay pit. This is a distinct regional cultural connection that complements the themes of landscape and clay in Staudt without attributing the museum’s exhibits to the village itself.
