Rehe can be experienced on a marked circular hiking trail, a stage of the WesterwaldSteig and a pilgrimage route. Together with the history of the prayer and schoolhouse, these offer various focal points for planning your trip: a specified hiking time, routes through meadows and countryside, and a destination with historical significance.
Hiking: Circular Trail and Long-Distance Trail
The marked VR5 circular hiking trail runs from Rennerod to Rehe via an old railway embankment and a section of the WesterwaldSteig. The 12.6-kilometre route has an estimated walking time of approximately 3.1 hours. This makes it easier to plan the walk around a specific timeframe than a stage without a stated duration. The distance and time may change if the trail is rerouted, so check the current route before setting out.
The WesterwaldSteig stage from Rehe to Rennerod offers a different perspective. It starts right at the town hall and leads out of the village, through meadows and pastures towards the Krombachtalsperre reservoir. In the wider Westerwald travel region, the WesterwaldSteig is a 235-kilometre long-distance hiking trail with 16 stages. The section starting in Rehe is therefore part of a much larger hiking route, while the VR5 is a circular trail offering a distinct route choice. The WesterwaldSteig’s main trail is about 170 metres from the Rehe Ort bus stop. Check for possible detours and current bus connections before setting out.
Krombachtalsperre Reservoir and Nature
The Krombachtalsperre reservoir is a destination on the WesterwaldSteig stage. Visitor facilities at the reservoir associated with Rehe include a campsite, a beach and a surfing school. The northern part of the Krombachtalsperre is a 26-hectare nature reserve. This landscape offers both leisure facilities and a designated natural area. Check the availability of visitor facilities locally before your trip.
The Prayer and Schoolhouse: History in the Village
The prayer and schoolhouse adds a specific chapter to the village’s history: construction of the combined building began in 1738, and classes were held there until 1924. The first floor houses a prayer room with a folk-art pulpit. The details of its construction and use bring its historical significance into focus; at the same time, the combination of prayer house and school describes two functions under one roof. The building thus provides a distinct point of interest alongside the hiking trails and natural attractions, without making a stay revolve around just one type of experience.
A Pilgrimage Stage to GemĂĽnden
A pilgrimage stage also leads from Rehe to GemĂĽnden. It passes through scenic areas and goes by the Holzbach Gorge and the collegiate church in GemĂĽnden. The Holzbach Gorge in the Westerwald is a breakthrough valley approximately one kilometre long, with basalt walls up to 30 metres high. This stage thus combines a route between two named places with a natural feature and a cultural destination. For planning, it is another option alongside the VR5 circular hike and the WesterwaldSteig section; check the route for local changes before your trip.
