Chapels, renovated half-timbered houses and hiking trails through forests, meadows and valleys give Hübingen a character shaped by both local history and nature. The village is in the Buchfinkenland, a scenic area in the southern Westerwald that is part of Nassau Nature Park.

Village History and Buchfinkenlandhalle

In the village center stands the Wendelinus Chapel, dating from 1808. Renovated half-timbered houses add to the village’s character. On the road to Welschneudorf stands the Heiligenhäuschen, dating from 1883—a wayside chapel and a memorial. The two chapels offer contrasting settings: the Wendelinus Chapel is in the heart of the village, while the Heiligenhäuschen stands on the road to Welschneudorf.

The Buchfinkenlandhalle is another venue for events. It hosts concerts, parties, carnival gatherings and theater performances. The program may vary by season, so check current dates if you are planning to attend an event.

Hiking Trails with Different Highlights

The hiking area around Hübingen includes extensive forests, meadows and valleys that you can explore away from roads and noise. The Buchfinkenland Nordic Walking Park stretches for around 50 kilometers and includes seven interconnected routes of varying difficulty. The signposted circular hiking trails in the Buchfinkenland connect Hübingen, Gackenbach and Horbach through forests and meadows, avoiding busy roads.

The historic Köhler hiking trail between Hübingen and Winden follows in the charcoal burners’ footsteps and includes a reconstructed mine entrance. The trails therefore have different focuses: the Nordic Walking Park emphasizes its network of routes and varying levels of difficulty, while the Köhler hiking trail focuses on the history of charcoal burning. Check local trail conditions before setting out.

A Nature-Themed Trail

The 4.5-kilometer Wasser.Wiesen.Wolken themed trail runs around the Hübingen Family Holiday Village. It combines walking with learning about nature, is designed for children and uses three stations to explain water, soil and air in a playful way. The signage may change over time.

The Family Holiday Village is located at the edge of the forest and offers family-oriented experiences, as well as special programs for youth groups and senior citizens. Check current offerings directly with the operator before booking. This lets you consider the themed trail and the Family Holiday Village’s offerings as two different aspects of a stay, without assuming that every program is the same for all groups.

Snacks and Evening Events

At Brunnenplatz in the center of the village, Hübinger Treff is a place to grab a bite to eat and enjoy an evening beer. Check opening arrangements before visiting. Together with the events at Buchfinkenlandhalle, this gives you a choice between an evening in the village and a possible visit to an event; for the latter, seasonal dates are key.
