Daubach combines a varied circular trail with a tree trail and a seasonal village café. Two clear points help with planning: the hike takes about three hours, and the café is open only during a set period. This helps you decide whether your trip will focus on a longer hike or include a visit during the café’s opening hours.

Hiking around the Apfelstein

The moderate “Rund um den Apfelstein” circular trail is 11.1 kilometres long and can start or end at Daubach village square. The hike is listed as taking about three hours. Along the way, the route passes through the protected Stelzenbach meadows and woodland, follows the Stelzenbach stream and passes the Erbenmühle mill, with views from above Daubach towards Höchst. This sequence brings together open countryside, woodland and water on a single circular walk.

The tree trail offers a different focus: it features the Trees of the Year. Together with the hike, this gives you a choice between a walk with varied landscapes and an educational trail about trees. Check trail conditions and access information before setting out.

Getting there and seasonal refreshments

Daubach can be reached from Montabaur via the VRM and bus route 458. Free parking is available at the village square, near the exit towards Horbach. When planning your journey, check the bus service and parking rules before departure.

The seasonal village café is at or near the Heimathaus. On Sundays and public holidays from 1 May to 3 October, from 2 to 5 pm, it serves homemade cakes, coffee, tea or cocoa, cold non-alcoholic drinks and ice cream. If you want to make a café visit part of your plans, check the opening hours again for the year of your trip.

Westerwald: more topics in the wider destination

In the wider Westerwald destination, longer hiking trails can help you plan other kinds of walks. The WesterwaldSteig is 235 kilometres long and divided into 16 stages. The Druidensteig runs for 94 kilometres over seven day stages through seven river valleys and includes more than 30 geo-information points. Both long-distance trails are therefore on a different scale from Daubach’s 11.1-kilometre Apfelstein circular trail. Check the latest information in the route planner before setting out.

Those interested in geological history can visit Stöffel-Park in the Westerwald: the approximately 140-hectare site of a former basalt quarry brings together industrial heritage, geological history and nature. Fossils are on display at the TERTIÄRUM in Stöffel-Park, including the Stöffel mouse; they document around 25 million years of geological history. The Westerwald Ceramics Museum focuses on the history of working with clay. The objects on display mostly originate from clay pits in the Westerwald. In the museum workshop, visitors can get creative themselves under expert guidance; check the programme and booking conditions in advance.

These regional topics complement the practical planning for Daubach without replacing its local offerings: the Apfelstein circular trail, tree trail and seasonal café give your time in the village its own character.
