In Höhr-Grenzhausen, ceramics are more than just a museum topic. Around 40 workshops and studios, the BFZK, private museums and galleries shape the city’s ceramics profile. The ceramics museum, natural swimming pool, and walking and cycling trails also offer a range of options for your stay.

Ceramics between the museum and workshops

Höhr-Grenzhausen is a member of the European Route of Ceramics. At the Ceramics Museum, you can explore more than five centuries of ceramics history across approximately 2,500 square metres and four exhibition levels. The programme includes special and solo exhibitions by renowned ceramic artists from around the world.

If you would like to get creative yourself, you can make your own ceramics in the museum workshop under expert guidance. There are individual visitor programmes for different age groups. Check the workshop’s availability and the latest programme details before your trip.

Forest and water

The Höhr-Grenzhausen Forest Adventure Trail is an approximately three-kilometre sensory trail that engages visitors through their senses. It also includes the Höhr-Grenzhausen forest quiz for children. The route connects its woodland setting with a particular focus on perception and discovery.

The Linderhohl natural swimming pool offers a different way to enjoy the outdoors: swimming here requires no chemical water treatment. The pool also has a baby and children’s pool with an adjoining sandy beach. The forest trail and natural swimming pool offer different experiences—movement and sensory impressions on the one hand, water on the other.

Grenzau: Castle and circular hike

In the district of Grenzau, Grenzau Castle stands above the district, with its distinctive triangular keep. A moderately difficult circular hike also starts in Grenzau. It leads through the Brexbach Valley and along forest trails, crosses the tracks of a former railway line, passes the Steinebrück Viaduct and reaches a reconstructed Roman tower.

The route thus combines forest and valley trails with traces of different uses and eras: it crosses the former railway line, while the reconstructed tower provides a Roman reference point. These stops lie along the described loop; Grenzau Castle is a separate, prominent landmark in the district.

One way to get to the loop is to take the bus to Höhr-Grenzhausen and then walk to Grenzau. This divides the journey into two sections without assuming a specific walking time or connection.

Cycling route and route choices

The Köppel Route starts in Höhr-Grenzhausen and is approximately 26 kilometres long. From Grenzau railway station, you can reach the route by bicycle in about 15 minutes; the actual travel time depends on the route you choose. Compared with the approximately three-kilometre Forest Adventure Trail, the cycling route is considerably longer. The circular hike in Grenzau, with its moderate difficulty, offers another point of reference beyond distance alone. This gives you several details to help plan your trip: a short forest trail, a graded circular hike and a longer cycling route.
