Heiligenroth is located in Nassau Nature Park. Local highlights range from a walking route and the Ahrbach stream to architectural history and local customs. When planning your trip, you can therefore choose how to balance nature and culture.

The Ahrbach and Hermolder

The Ahrbach flows through the municipal area of Heiligenroth. At Hermolder, it passes beneath the Montabaur–Limburg Road (L318). The Hermolder Bridge is about 18 meters high. Resting on it is the nearly one-meter-thick Hermolder sphere, which is associated with a local legend about bell ringing. This brings together a distinctive architectural feature and a local tradition.

Trail to Koppelhütte

The trail from the fairground to Koppelhütte was laid out around 1950. Halfway along is a rest area with views over Heiligenroth. Koppel, also known as Helljerera Koppel, lies at an elevation of 292 meters within the municipal area and also offers views over the village. Koppelhütte provides shelter; there is also a small seating area in Koppel. For orientation, you can distinguish three points: the fairground as the starting point, the rest area halfway along, and Koppelhütte as the destination of the named trail. The approximate date when it was created also links the route to local history.

Church and local history

The present-day Church of St. Peter and St. Marcellinus replaced an existing farm church in 1782. The surviving tower beside the church is now used as a bell tower. The year marks the transition to the present-day church; the tower’s use describes a separate function that continues to this day.

Multi-generational park and local customs

At the edge of the forest, the multi-generational park features play, sports, and recreation facilities, as well as two covered picnic shelters. It also serves as a rest stop for visitors passing through Heiligenroth on foot or by bicycle. As part of the St. Martin’s tradition, a lantern procession passes through the village to a bonfire at the multi-generational park. The exact program may vary.

The village fair takes place on the Sunday after June 2. Festivities include decorating and raising the fair tree; the exact calendar date changes from year to year. If you would like to plan your stay around this festival, check the date for the year you have in mind. This distinguishes the fair, whose date is set by the calendar, from the St. Martin’s tradition, whose program may vary.

Hiking trails in the Westerwald

In the wider Westerwald destination, the WesterwaldSteig offers a regional long-distance hiking experience. The trail runs for 235 kilometers through the Westerwald and comprises 16 stages. This offers a broader touring perspective alongside the specific route from Heiligenroth’s fairground to Koppelhütte. If you are interested in the WesterwaldSteig, check the current route plan before you set off.
