Waldweiler lies at the foot of the 695-metre-high Teufelskopf in the Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park. The renaturalised Burkelsbach stream flows through the village and joins the Ruwer. This location combines natural surroundings with trails and amenities in the village. These include the Generations Park, a 3.5-kilometre nature trail and the Hochwald-Acht Dream Loop, which passes through the village centre.

Trails in the village: park and routes

The Generations Park has paths, a pond loop, a playground, a football area, a Kneipp pool and benches. Here, you can combine a walk around the pond with a break on a bench; the playground, football area and Kneipp pool offer additional activities. Use of individual facilities may vary depending on operating conditions.

The nature trail is 3.5 kilometres long and starts in Waldweiler; the Hochwald-Acht Dream Loop passes through the village centre. The two trails offer different points of reference for planning: a route with a stated distance or one that takes you through the village centre. This lets you decide first whether the length or the route through the village matters more for your outing.

Village café and how to get there

The village café serves coffee and cake on an outdoor terrace in the converted Old School, a building more than 100 years old. Check the opening hours separately before planning your visit. Waldweiler is accessible via the B 407; take traffic conditions on the day of your trip into account when planning your journey.

Choosing Waldweiler as a place to stay

When choosing a holiday apartment, it helps to decide what you want to focus on during your stay. If you mainly want to enjoy local trails and the Generations Park, Waldweiler’s amenities provide specific points of reference. If you are also planning to visit other destinations in the wider Trier-Saarburg travel region, consider them as a separate regional context. This lets you tailor your search for a holiday apartment to the balance you want between a local stay and regional exploration.

Trier-Saarburg: regional additions

The wider Trier-Saarburg travel region has 492 kilometres of cycle paths in the district. The Tälchen Tour starts and ends in Konz, is classified as a moderate circular route and leads to the Wiltinger Saarbogen nature reserve. It is 37.28 kilometres long, with a stated duration of approximately 2 hours and 45 minutes. This makes it considerably longer than Waldweiler’s 3.5-kilometre nature trail; the stated duration also provides an additional planning reference.

Other themes in the wider Trier-Saarburg travel region include castle history and Viez culture. Much of Saarburg Castle’s curtain walls and a residential tower have been preserved; several viewing platforms and the tower offer panoramic views of the Saar Valley. Along the Viezstraße, fruit growers, fruit distillers, farmers, hoteliers and restaurateurs share information, regional recipes and experiences centred on Viez. This lets you choose nature trails, architectural history and Viez culture as different focuses when planning your trip.

For Roman history, Trier-Saarburg offers another highlight in Tawern: the Roman road settlement of Tabernae is considered the origin of the village and was established shortly before the start of the Common Era on the Roman main road from the Moselle via Metz to Rome. The pavilion houses an authentic model of the settlement at a scale of 1:75; in the forest, you can also find the large reconstructed temple complex of Tawern. The free ARGO app lets you view the temple complex on site at full scale and as a 360-degree augmented reality display.
