Temmels lies on the Upper Moselle in an area shaped by winegrowing and agriculture. Two parts of the village define its layout: the lower village lies directly on the Moselle, while the upper village is above the railway line. When looking for a holiday apartment, it is worth checking its exact location to see whether it is in the lower village by the river or in the upper village above the railway line.

Discover Temmels by bike

The Moselle Cycle Path runs through Temmels. You can reach the village by bike via the Moselle Cycle Path from Trier towards Perl and Luxembourg; the route through Temmels also connects with routes along the Upper Moselle towards the Middle Moselle, the Sauer and the Saar. The Nittel–Trier stage of the Moselle Cycle Path also passes through the village. If you are planning a route along the Upper Moselle, you can distinguish between these directions when choosing your route. Check the current route and conditions before setting off.

One specific stop on the Moselle Cycle Path is Obermoselperle, next to the sports field. Regional wines and a varied selection of food are available there. The adjacent sports field gives children a place to play. This makes it possible to combine a stop along the cycling route with a play break. Getting here and getting around

You can reach Temmels by car from Trier, Metz and Luxembourg via federal highway B 419. The village also has its own stop on the Trier–Apach railway line, with regular Deutsche Bahn services. Bus route 134 connects Temmels directly with Grevenmacher and Luxembourg City. As bus services and timetables may change, it is advisable to check connections for your travel day. If you are travelling without a car, you can compare the train and bus connections separately; the B 419 is the stated access route for travel by car.

There are well-maintained hiking trails, including the Hunsrückhöhenweg. Alongside the Moselle Cycle Path, hiking trails are therefore another activity to consider in the area. The trail information does not specify walking times, so when planning you can use the route you actually intend to take as your guide and check current trail conditions in advance.

Local history and Georgshof

Temmels was first documented in 634 under the historical name “Villa Tamaltio.” From the Middle Ages until the Congress of Vienna, the village belonged to Luxembourg. An important aspect of Temmels’ cultural history is the Baroque Georgshof: it was formerly an estate belonging to the Teutonic Order in Trier and has been a listed monument since 1980. The village’s history thus links an early written reference and its historical connection to Luxembourg with a protected building complex of particular architectural and cultural-historical significance.
