Longuich is right on the Moselle Cycle Route. Local attractions also include the Longuicher Sauerbrunnen Moselsteig side trail, a Roman villa and wine culture. This gives you several distinct themes to choose from for your stay: you can focus on cycling, hiking, local history or food and wine, depending on your interests.

Cycling and hiking

The Moselle Cycle Route is a direct option for a cycling trip, while the Sauerbrunnen side trail offers a separate hiking option focused on the landscape and nature. The Longuicher Sauerbrunnen Moselsteig side trail is about 12.7 kilometres long and passes through a varied landscape of vineyards and cultural sites. Nature and geology come together along the route: the Longuicher Sauerbrunnen is a spring fed by Devonian strata in the Hochwald. Its mineral water is rich in iron and carbon dioxide; the trail also includes a biotope with unique vegetation and rare animals. The Moselsteig side trail received the German Hiking Seal on 28 May 2014.

Roman history and local history

From the centre of Longuich, you can walk to the Roman Villa Urbana. Its reconstructed bathhouse includes a changing room, a heated pool, a sweat bath and a cold pool. These features offer a tangible connection to Roman bathing culture.

The cultural history tour also takes you to the Old Castle and St. Lawrence Parish Church. The church was built in 1771, probably to plans by Johannes Seiz; its uniform interior furnishings date from the time of construction. The villa and the church represent two different periods: a Roman complex and an 18th-century church building.

Wine culture at Maximiner Herrenberg

In Longuich-Kirsch, wine culture is associated with vineyards on the steep slate slopes of Maximiner Herrenberg. Wine tastings, celebrations and places to eat are also part of the visitor experience. This adds a culinary focus to the hiking and history themes: you can plan food and wine as a separate reason to visit or as part of a varied stay.

The wider area: Trier-Saarburg

The wider Trier-Saarburg destination has 492 kilometres of cycle paths in the district of Trier-Saarburg. The Tälchen Tour is designated as a moderately difficult circular route, is 37.28 kilometres long and is listed as taking about 2 hours and 45 minutes. It starts and ends in Konz. This information refers to the Tälchen Tour and provides a separate regional option alongside the routes in Longuich.

Another Roman-history highlight in Trier-Saarburg is in Tawern. The Roman road settlement of Tabernae is considered the origin of the town and was established shortly before the turn of the era on the main Roman road from the Moselle via Metz to Rome. The pavilion houses an authentic model of the settlement at a scale of 1:75; the forest also contains the large reconstructed temple complex. Using the free ARGO app, you can view the complex on site at full scale and as a 360-degree augmented reality display.
