Four local circular trails give a stay in Hömberg a specific focus. The routes are approximately 3.4 to 8.3 km long and pass different points of interest. H4 includes steep sections that need to be taken into account when planning; this trail is recommended for experienced hikers. The surrounding landscape features the Lahn Heights, the foot of the Westerwald and sweeping views in several directions.

The Lahn Heights and sweeping views

Hömberg lies on the Lahn Heights at the foot of the Westerwald and within Nassau Nature Park. From here, sweeping views extend towards the Taunus, Hunsrück and Eifel. The views and the different routes give the village a clear connection to its landscape; the route length and points of interest are especially helpful when choosing a trail.

Four local circular trails

  • H1: approximately 4 km, passing the Pionierbrüggelche.
  • H2: approximately 3.4 km, with views of Nassau Castle and the Lahn Valley.
  • H3: approximately 8.3 km, passing over the Ehrlichskopf and by a former slate mine.
  • H4: approximately 6 km, passing over the Herrnley and Hahnenkopf and by the Gertrudishöhe viewpoint. The trail includes steep sections and is recommended for experienced hikers.

Based on the stated distances, H2 is the shortest trail and H3 the longest. H4 is in between, but its steep sections are a particular planning consideration. The route length alone therefore does not tell you everything you need to know when choosing a suitable hike.

Starting point and directions

The trails start at the former ADAC car park on the Nassau side of Hömberg. An information board there explains the routes, and coloured markers help with navigation. There are also parking spaces near the Taunusblick hotel. Check parking options locally before setting off. Route details, conditions and signage may change, so it is worth checking the latest information before your hike.

Other local points of interest

A Kneipp facility is about 270 m from the village. Local amenities also include hiking car parks and barbecue areas; the local trail network extends across the Lahn Heights. Availability and access permissions may change, so it is advisable to check before using these facilities.

Hof Taunusblick is associated with farm holidays, a petting meadow, dairy goat farming, an on-site goat cheese dairy and an organic shop. If these offerings interest you during your stay, check that the farm is open and confirm access before visiting. This keeps the farm offerings as a separate option alongside the hikes, without confusing them with the local trails.

Travel and the wider context

Nassau is 4 km away and is the nearest railway station. Motorway and ICE connections are available in Montabaur, 13 km away. The two towns offer different reference points for planning your journey: Nassau is noted for its rail connection, while Montabaur is noted for its motorway and ICE connections.

The wider Rhein-Lahn destination includes the Rhein-Lahn district: the area on the right bank of the Rhine at the mouth of the Lahn, the Lahn Valley as far as just before Limburg near Diez, the southern foothills of the Westerwald towards the Lahn Valley, and the northern uplands of the Taunus between the Rhine and Aar. The Roman Limes also crosses the district; its remains, still visible today, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Upper Germanic-Rhaetian Limes. This broader geographical and historical context complements the focus on Hömberg’s Lahn Heights and circular trails.
