The Simultaneous Church of St. Anthony is a distinctive architectural and historical landmark in Hahn. Hahn is also directly connected to Frankfurt-Hahn Airport, which is located a few hundred metres away.
Simultaneous Church of St. Anthony
The historic ensemble comprises the choir, the west tower and parts of the former three-aisled nave. It also includes the late Gothic tracery window, the wooden tower cupola dating from the 18th century, the surrounding cemetery and old trees.
The small simultaneous church lies just outside the settlement in a small meadow valley. Its Romanesque west tower dates to around 1370; the choir and nave were added about a century later. Along with the construction phases, the late Gothic tracery window and the wooden tower cupola dating from the 18th century point to other periods.
Airport Connection and Local History
The airport was converted for civilian use in 1993 and handles both freight and passenger traffic. Together with its proximity to the town, this is a separate point of interest, distinct from the architectural history of the simultaneous church.
In the Wider Travel Destination of Rhein-HunsrĂĽck
The Rhein-Hunsrück district covers extensive areas of the Hunsrück, part of the Rhenish Slate Mountains, as well as the part of the Upper Middle Rhine Valley on the left bank of the Rhine. It also includes large parts of the Hunsrück plateau and the quartzite ridges to the south, such as the Soonwald. In the Upper Middle Rhine Valley, the Rhine also forms the district’s eastern boundary.
Parts of the Hunsrück-Mittelrhein municipal association and the town of Boppard in the Rhein-Hunsrück district belong to the Upper Middle Rhine Valley UNESCO World Heritage Site, which was recognised in 2002. Another regional cultural attraction is the Museum of Regional History in Haus der regionalen Geschichte in Kastellaun. Through themed exhibitions, information panels and original documents, it presents the region’s development from the Middle Ages to the Cold War.
From 25 April 2026, the museum will be open Thursdays and Fridays from 12:00 to 17:00, and Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays from 11:00 to 17:00. Check the opening hours before your visit.
The district has numerous hiking trails, including the certified Soonwaldsteig premium hiking trail. The Saar-HunsrĂĽck-Steig runs across the HunsrĂĽck via Kastellaun to the Rhine at Boppard and covers a total of 410 kilometres in 27 stages. The regional hiking information therefore distinguishes between the trails by the features specified: certification for the Soonwaldsteig, and route and number of stages for the Saar-HunsrĂĽck-Steig.
Cycling routes are also part of the regional offering: they run along the Rhine and through the HunsrĂĽck, and are extensive, well developed and signposted. For cycling trips, the RadBus HunsrĂĽck-Mosel, route 629, supports travel during the 2026 season on the Schinderhannes cycle route between Kastellaun and Emmelshausen, as well as on the Schinderhannes-Untermosel cycle route between Emmelshausen and the Moselle. Check the seasonal timetable when planning your trip.
