The holiday apartments at Sonnenhang are located above the Wied, in the district of Hausen-Reuschenbach; there are numerous hiking trails nearby. In the wider destination of Hausen (Wied), Malbergsee, the Basalt Nature Trail and other trails offer additional opportunities for excursions.

Holiday Apartments in Reuschenbach

The holiday apartments at Sonnenhang comprise two units. The ground-floor apartment is 90 m², has two bedrooms and is designed for four people. The attic apartment is intended for two people and can be expanded with a sofa bed. Both details help you compare the layout of the apartments with your travel group.

The “Im Wiesenrain” holiday apartment is in the quiet district of Reuschenbach, above Hausen an der Wied. It is about 90 m² and has a separate entrance and a terrace with a view. Motorcycles and bicycles can be safely stored in the garage. When choosing between the options, several specific features are therefore key: the different apartment sizes and occupancies at Sonnenhang, and the terrace, separate entrance and garage parking for two-wheelers at Wiesenrain.

Hiking and Basalt at Malberg

In the wider destination of Hausen (Wied), Malberg changes character with the seasons: in winter, it is a destination for sledding; from spring to autumn, hikes offer panoramic views of the Wied Valley and the heights of the Westerwald. The small Malbergsee lies in a crater formed after the basalt summit was quarried at the beginning of this century.

The Malbergsee Basalt Nature Trail is a short circular route with views of the lake. It runs alongside a former basalt quarry for columnar basalt near the district of Hähnen; information boards explain basalt quarrying. The Kleine Wäller MalbergSeeBlick excursion continues to a viewing plateau at Malbergsee: from there, you can see the steep basalt walls, and a reclining swing invites you to linger. Halfway along, a shorter loop follows a forest track back to the car park.

You can also make a rest stop part of your hike. The Kleine Wäller MalbergSeeBlick leads to the Malberg Hut, where regional dishes are served on a sunny terrace. The Basalt Nature Trail also has a staffed hiking hut and benches where you can relax. Those interested in quarrying will find information boards along the trail; those seeking views of the landscape can make the lakeside viewing plateau their main destination.

The wider destination of Hausen (Wied) also includes Wiedtalbad among its excursion destinations. Its indoor leisure pool is 31 °C and has a slide, a current channel and a waterfall. In the municipality of Hausen (Wied), the church of St. Josefshaus Monastery is considered worth seeing. The H2 Hausen circular route climbs to Malberg and Malbergsee, passes Westerwaldklinik and St. Josefshaus, and returns to Wiedtalbad.

Getting to the Routes

The Kleine Wäller MalbergSeeBlick can be reached on line 146 between Bad Hönningen and Roßbach. From the “Reuschenbach Weißfeld” stop, continue on foot. If you plan to use the bus, check the current timetable before setting out. For the H2 Hausen hike, you can use the car park behind Wiedtalbad at Hönninger Straße 1, 53547 Hausen/Wied, or the optional car park at Malberg (Malberg Hut).

A cycling route also passes through Reuschenbach: one variant of the climb to WeiĂźfeld reaches a gradient of about 18 percent on two tight bends at the edge of the village, just before joining the main route. The gradient is approximate; check current road conditions before setting out.
