Explore Oberfell along several trails with different lengths and themes. Three HVV routes start and end above St. Nicholas Church; the “Legendary Trail” leads through and around the village, while the “Bleidenberg Views” dream trail climbs a vineyard-covered slope to views of the Moselle. A small local history museum in the Old Rectory and the viewing platform on the Bleidenberg plateau add culture and scenery to your experience of Oberfell. When planning, use trail length, theme and views as practical points of reference.

Comparing the three HVV routes

The three HVV routes share a starting and ending point above St. Nicholas Church, but differ in length and the waypoints listed. This makes it easy to compare them first by distance and then by the places along each route.

The Green HVV Route is 4.9 km long. It starts and ends above St. Nicholas Church and passes, among other places, along the Liebespfad and over the Bleidenberg plateau. It also passes the Kneipp foot-bath, the forest elephant, the Celtic wall and the viewing platform.

The Red HVV Route is 6.4 km long and has the same starting and ending point above the church. It passes, among other places, along the Panorama Trail and by the shelter at Wachsnilles, the wayside cross and the tower of life on Schildberg. The Ant Trail and the KurfĂĽrstenruh shelter are also among the listed waypoints.

At 7.9 km, the Blue HVV Route is the longest of the three. It also starts and ends above St. Nicholas Church. Among other places, it follows the Panorama Trail and passes the tower of life on Schildberg, Rotläufje and the shelters on Dickenberg.

The Green Route is the shortest and the Blue Route the longest; at 6.4 km, the Red Route is in between. The Panorama Trail and the tower of life on Schildberg are listed for both the Red and Blue routes. The Green Route passes, among other places, along the Liebespfad and over the Bleidenberg plateau. This makes it possible to compare the shared starting and ending points with the routes’ different features.

Other trails and views

The “Legendary Trail” follows the traces of old legends through and around Oberfell. The “Bleidenberg Views” dream trail offers a different experience: it starts at the church in Oberfell and climbs a vineyard-covered slope, from where views of the Moselle open up. If you are looking for a theme to help choose a trail, as well as distance, you can choose between legends and a vineyard slope with views of the Moselle.

The Bleidenberg viewing platform is on the Bleidenberg plateau and offers sweeping views of the Moselle Valley. While the dream trail opens up views of the Moselle, the platform offers views over the Moselle Valley. These are two distinct landscape perspectives to choose from in Oberfell.

Local history museum and local tradition

The Old Rectory in Oberfell now houses a small local history museum as a cultural center, including archaeological finds from the Bleidenberg plateau. Check access in advance before planning a visit.

On Trinity Sunday, pilgrims process solemnly through the forest to the Church of the Holy Trinity on Bleidenberg; in Oberfell, the day is observed as a public holiday. The finds in the local history museum and the procession represent different cultural connections to Bleidenberg.
