Uelversheim combines a distinctive local history with paths through vineyards and views across the Rheinhessen Hills. In the historic village center, a signposted circular route leads to notable buildings; hiking and cycling trails also open up the landscape in Uelversheim and its surroundings. This lets you choose between cultural history and outdoor experiences.

Local History Along Signposted Trails

The signposted historic village trail leads to several stops in the village center. These include the historic town hall dating from 1797, Leininger Castle, old houses around the church, and the village fountain. This mix makes the route a way to explore architectural history and village life, without reducing the village’s history to a single building.

Uelversheim Castle was created in the mid-18th century when a residential building on the local manor estate was converted into a country house. After its completion, it served as a summer residence for the Counts of Leiningen. The Protestant parish church is another notable part of the village’s history: its unusual design is considered unique in Rheinhessen.

Uelversheim’s historic tour also includes a Celtic burial site dating to around 50 BC. The Sasselbach flows through the village from west to east as its stream. The former Spritzbrühhaus supplied local winegrowers with premixed spray solution during the spraying season from May to September. Another chapter in the village’s history is the former small chapel Am Graben: it served the Catholic congregation for services and religious instruction until 1983. The building is privately owned.

Trained tour guide Rita Krämer invites visitors to explore the village’s history on a guided tour; please check availability and arrange a date in advance.

Trails, Viewpoints, and Nature

Uelversheim has an extensive network of hiking and cycling trails in the village and surrounding area. Walks and bike rides through vineyards or along the water combine scenic views with a historic backdrop. The trails offer views across the Rheinhessen Hills; from the Rebmustergarten, distant views extend toward the Taunus, Odenwald, Donnersberg, and Binger Loch.

At Junghennblick, there are two tables with benches, as well as an information board highlighting points of interest in the surrounding landscape. Two local biotopes invite you to spend time in nature. Check local access conditions before visiting.

A paved field track leads to the Graunsberghäuschen, crossing the Sasselbach and then climbing uphill through the vineyard. The described return route follows a farm track to the cemetery. There is a landscaped outdoor area by the small house; inside, a built-in masonry bench runs around the walls. Check trail conditions before setting out, as route conditions may change.

Another Cultural Option

Nearby Oppenheim is another destination to consider, known for St. Catherine’s Church and its labyrinth of cellars. If you would like to visit these places, check access arrangements and opening hours separately. This offers a clear choice between Uelversheim’s local history, trails, and nature spots, and another cultural option in the surrounding area.
