Bellheim brings together trails and destinations in the countryside, cultural venues and seasonal events. As you plan your trip, consider whether a hike, the landscape or a particular cultural event should shape your stay. The options offer a range of possibilities: a circular walk of around five kilometres, an adventure playground on the edge of the forest and a cultural programme whose dates you can check in advance.

Forest, Circular Trail and Local Traces

The adventure playground is on the edge of the forest, by the Schützenhaus at the end of Forststraße. Its features include a water play area, logs for climbing and balancing, swings, climbing towers, a zip line and a forest discovery trail. There is also an Elwetritschen viewing platform in the forest north of Bellheim. The grounds of the Old Sawmill Mittelmühle include a herb trail—a place to focus on plants.

The Queich Meadows Loop is a circular walk of around five kilometres, starting and ending at the SchĂĽtzenhaus Bellheim. Along the way, it passes the adventure playground, the war memorial and the Spiegelbach, as well as the Knittelsheim Mill and remains of the former ammunition railway from the Second World War. Check local route conditions before setting out.

At the deserted settlement of Friedrichsbühl, remains of a former Electoral Palatinate hunting lodge have been preserved. The lodge was built in 1550 and destroyed during the Thirty Years’ War.

Cultural Venues and Seasonal Events

The Kulturwerkstatt “Alter Kindergarten” provides the cultural association with space for changing exhibitions, small concerts, readings and talks. The “Open Stage”, featuring music, cabaret and poetry slam, is also held there regularly. If you would like to plan your trip around an evening of culture, check the current programme and specific dates.

The Bellheim Garden Days traditionally take place at Whitsun in Spiegelbach Park. During Advent, the same park provides the setting for the St Nicholas Market. Another regular fixture in the events calendar is the Bock Beer Festival: on the eve of the Bellemer Kerwe, a distinguished Bellheim resident is named Bellheim Lord every year on the second weekend in October. The seasonal dates vary—from Whitsun to the Kerwe weekend and Advent. The current dates of each event are key to planning a visit.

Bellheim in the Wider Germersheim Destination

In the wider Germersheim destination, the Queich Mills Circular Trail offers another perspective on the region’s milling heritage: it runs around Bellheim, connects four of the six surviving mills and brings the history of milling to life. The Queich meadows also give the region a distinctive landscape. They form an actively operated meadow irrigation system covering around 350 hectares, stretching from Landau through Offenbach, Hochstadt, Ottersheim, Knittelsheim, Bellheim and Zeiskam to Germersheim.

In Germersheim itself, the fortress provides a different cultural focus. It is considered the largest Bavarian fortress outside Bavaria; numerous significant surviving buildings encircle the entire town centre. These regional attractions are distinct from what Bellheim itself offers and can broaden your options if you would like to explore the wider destination as well as Bellheim’s trails.

If events are the focus of your stay, it is worth checking the dates before your trip; local route conditions are the main consideration for the hike.
