Utscheid is located in the South Eifel Nature Park. Hiking, the water tower and archaeological finds offer different ways to shape a stay. If you are looking for a hotel, you can first consider whether the landscape, local history or a particular activity will determine your choice of destination.
Hiking around Utscheid
South Eifel Nature Park Trail No. 82 is a circular trail around Utscheid and Rußdorf. It starts and ends on Sinspelter Straße in Utscheid. Along the way, it passes meadows, stretches of forest, villages and bodies of water. The trail also offers a view of the top of a former water tower. The hiking routes around Utscheid also lead through the hills of the South Eifel and dense forests. This means that a specifically named circular trail and descriptions of the landscape with its hills and forests are available as different points of reference. Before setting off, check the trail markers and accessibility on site again.
Water tower and archaeological traces
The Utscheid water tower was built in 1956 and is 16 metres high. It stands on one of the highest hills in the Eifel landscape and offers panoramic views. This combines a distinctive landmark with the history of the structure: its year of construction and height give the tower its own historical significance, while its location opens up views across the landscape.
Archaeological finds also offer a reason to consider Utscheid beyond its landscape. A Bronze Age burial ground was discovered in the village. Ancient pottery finds from Utscheid are on display at the Bitburg-Prüm District Museum. The archaeological points of interest thus range from the discovery of a burial ground to objects on view in a museum exhibition.
Another activity at the airfield
Introductory flights start and end at Utscheid Airfield. They are a separate activity alongside hiking and cultural attractions. As the flights can be booked, you should confirm their availability with the provider in advance. This lets you plan around a specific activity without equating it with hiking or visiting cultural sites.
