In Ernst, several routes explore different aspects of the Moselle landscape: the Moselkrampen Adventure Trail passes vineyards, fallow land, woodland and small Moselle villages. The Ernst Wine Trail focuses on grape varieties and winegrowing, while the Moselland Museum covers village life and, among other things, the work involved in tending the steep vineyards. Together, they offer ways to get to know the area from a landscape, winegrowing and historical perspective.

Trails and the Moselle landscape

The Wine Trail climbs gently. Information boards explain grape varieties and winegrowing; their content may change over time. The Moselkrampen Adventure Trail has a different focus: along the route, visitors can experience local flora and fauna, history and Moselle culture. The trail is signposted throughout, with large information boards at its starting points.

The Adventure Trail runs along both sides of the Moselle. It crosses the river by ferry at Beilstein and by bridge at Bruttig. The ferry operates seasonally, so check the connection before setting out. Signposting may change or be temporarily affected by maintenance work. For a more tranquil view of the river, the paths in Ernst offer a different perspective: they are mostly level and paved with concrete blocks or asphalt, with benches along the Moselle. Surfaces and facilities may change.

The two trails therefore offer different experiences: the Wine Trail focuses on grape varieties and cultivation, while Moselkrampen connects landscape, nature and Moselle culture. Which route you choose depends on whether you are particularly interested in winegrowing or in the variety of sights along the way.

Village life, winegrowing and architectural history

The Moselland Museum in Ernst depicts village life in the 1950s and 1960s across four floors and around 1,600 m². Exhibits include a winemaker’s house, a forge, a grape press, a school and more than 20 historic tractors; a quiz rally is also part of the offering. An exhibition on winegrowing follows the process from pressing the grapes to fermentation in the cellar and bottling. It also shows the demanding work involved in tending the steep vineyards along the Moselle. Check the current visitor information before your visit.

The Catholic Church in Ernst also offers a glimpse into architectural history. It was built in 1845–1846 to plans by the architect Johann Claudius von Lassaulx. Its stained-glass windows date from 1912. The church also has a historic organ: built by H. L. Voltmann in 1868, it has 20 stops. These details set the church’s architectural history apart from the museum’s insights into everyday life.

Regional cuisine and wine

In Ernst, visitors can find regional specialities at seasonal wine taverns, bistros and restaurants. Profiles of local winegrowers include direct links. In the surrounding region, BREVA wine is a dry premium Riesling available from wineries, restaurants and accommodation providers. Availability depends on participating businesses.

The BREVA Wein und Weg project connects Ernst, Bruttig-Fankel and Valwig through wine and steep-slope landscapes. The project and its participating producers may change. This regional perspective complements local dining options by linking wine and landscape, without presenting the three places as a single excursion destination.
