Ediger-Eller offers several distinct reasons to visit: historic courtyards and chapels, trails through vineyards and valleys, and wine and regional cuisine. When choosing a hotel in Ediger-Eller, it helps to consider whether culture, hiking or culinary visits will shape your stay.

History and art in the village center

The historic center of Ediger-Eller includes former monastery and aristocratic estates. The House of Psalms is a former synagogue and former Jewish school building. Its preserved genizah is considered significant for the Moselle region; cultural events are now held in the building.

The Rochus Chapel in Eller adds another perspective on architectural and art history. It is Romanesque, and its Gothic choir dates from around 1500. Inside is an Ecce Homo fresco based on an engraving by Martin Schongauer. The chapel, choir and fresco each offer a different perspective on sacred architecture and furnishings.

Hiking trails with different focuses

You can choose hiking trails based on the landscape and destination. One circular route leads through the vineyards between Ediger and Eller. Another route passes through the TaubengrĂĽn nature reserve to the hermitage of Brother Heinrich. Other options include the Calmont via ferrata and trails through the Pehrtal, Brochemer Tal and Reisental valleys.

Stages 16 and 17 of the Moselsteig Trail offer different highlights. Stage 16 runs between Neef and Ediger-Eller, crosses the Bremmer Calmont and reaches a viewing platform with expansive views. Stage 17 crosses cultivated vineyards and offers changing views across the Moselle Valley. This gives you a concrete point of difference when choosing: Stage 16 focuses on the Calmont and viewing platform, while Stage 17 features vineyards and valley views. Check trail conditions before setting out.

Paragliders also take off near the Calmont summit cross above the steep vineyards. Check the take-off conditions and local arrangements before participating.

Wine and regional cuisine

Rustic wine taverns serve hearty winemakers’ dishes with Moselle wine. The opening periods of individual establishments may vary. Regional menus also feature red vineyard peaches; their seasonal availability may vary.

Local wineries invite visitors to wine tastings and visits to rustic vaulted cellars. If you are planning a tasting or cellar visit, check booking requirements and seasonal availability locally. The distilleries in Ediger-Eller also produce fruit brandies and liqueurs. This gives you several options for planning your culinary experiences: winemakers’ dishes, wine tastings, cellar visits, and local brandies or liqueurs.
