Plan a hiking stay in Flußbach around two circular routes: one takes about two and a half hours, the other about two. They also differ in their routes: forests and meadows define the longer trail, while the shorter walk links the Brühlbach, a viewpoint and a return through the forest. You can choose a route based both on the time you have available and the landscapes you’d like to see.

Two Routes with Different Highlights

The large circular route in Flußbach is designated “Rww F1” by the Eifelverein. It takes about 2.5 hours and leads through forests and meadows. It is the longer of the two routes described and focuses on these landscapes.

The shorter circular walk takes about two hours. It follows the Brühlbach and includes the Reichelberg viewpoint, with views towards the Hunsrück. On the way back, it leads through the forest to Flußbach. This route combines a stream and a viewpoint with a stretch through the forest, while forests and meadows define the longer route.

The estimated times for the two routes differ by about half an hour. This can help with planning your day: consider whether you want the walk to take up a larger or smaller part of the day; the landscape features offer another way to choose. Check local route information before setting out. Conditions on the shorter route can vary.

A Historical Connection

Flußbach has historical ties to the Abbey of St. Maximin in Trier. The village is first mentioned in a register of the abbey’s property, compiled in 1220. Alongside the routes through forests, meadows and by the stream, this connection offers another perspective on Flußbach: the recorded history of the village.

In the Wider Bernkastel-Wittlich Destination

The wider Bernkastel-Wittlich destination brings together the volcanic Eifel, the romantic Moselle Valley and the Hunsrück, rich in forests and meadows. The 816-metre-high Erbeskopf is a great place for hiking and offers a variety of winter sports. At the national park entrance at Erbeskopf, an interactive multimedia exhibition provides information about nature and the environment, with a focus on forests and wetlands.

The cultural attractions offer a variety of experiences, too. The pilgrimage church of Maria Heimsuchung in Klausen was consecrated in 1502; Klausen remains a destination for pilgrims every year. The Zylinderhaus presents 90 years of German automotive history and more than 100 cars, motorcycles and vans. In the historic vaulted cellars of St. Nikolaus Hospital, the Vinothek offers tastings of wines from the Moselle, Saar and Ruwer. Its selection includes 100 wines, from quality wine to ice wine.

For cyclists, the Maare-Mosel Cycle Route runs for 58.5 kilometres from Daun to Bernkastel-Kues along a disused railway line. A cycle bus takes cyclists from Bernkastel-Kues to the starting point; the return journey can be booked in advance. A shorter archaeological tour is the approximately 45-minute Lauschtour: it starts at the Neumagen-Dhron Tourist Information Centre and follows a circular route of about 800 metres past historic sites, monuments and archaeological finds.
