Hargesheim lies on the Gräfenbach, between the Nahe Valley and the Hunsrück. Several clearly distinct themes come together for a stay here: early settlement history, religious history, named trail connections, and the cycling course Auf dem Wissberg. You can shape your stay around your own interests—history, specific trails, or leisure activities.
Trails and connections
The viewpoint Auf dem Hinkelstein is on the St. Bernhards-Kapellchen Route. The St. Bernhards-Kapellchen circular hiking trail is marked with a red chapel pictogram. Check the markings on site before setting out.
The footpath along the Gräfenbach is also part of the Rüdesheim Municipal Association’s circular cycling route. Its inclusion may change if the cycling infrastructure is modified, so check the current route before setting out. The Blue Dot Route is a short connection between Hargesheim and Bad Kreuznach via Kronenberg. These details distinguish between two types of route: the Gräfenbach footpath’s inclusion in a circular cycling route and the short connection between Hargesheim and Bad Kreuznach via Kronenberg.
Cycling course and playgrounds
In 2023, the cycling course Auf dem Wissberg was described as featuring standard and advanced jumps, a flow line, a balance-bike course, and steep turns; it is designed for all ages and ability levels. Check its current condition and access before visiting. Hargesheim also has four other playgrounds, in addition to those at the kindergarten and primary school.
History in Hargesheim
Archaeological finds place Hargesheim among the Neolithic settlement areas of the Nahe region; they date to around 5000 BC. Hargesheim is first mentioned in a property register belonging to Rupertsberg Abbey. Thus, evidence of a prehistoric settlement and a written reference in a monastic property register stand side by side.
A relic of Blessed Peter Friedhofen is enclosed in the reliquary tomb in St. Bernard’s Church. The church was consecrated on 15 April 1973 and is open during service times. Hargesheim Kerb is a local festival held every July. Dates and the program vary; check the dates and program for that year before travelling.
Accommodation for your stay

Bad Kreuznach: a distinct historical context
Bad Kreuznach also has its own distinct historical highlights. The bridge houses in Bad Kreuznach were built from 1480 onwards because of a lack of space. They are half-timbered buildings on piers of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. Since 1985/86, the museums of the city of Bad Kreuznach have been housed in the heritage-listed former Bangert manor, set in a historic park.
