The Gangelsberg Trail provides a clear focus for planning a hike in Duchroth. The certified premium route is 14.4 kilometres long and connected to the village. Its highlights include distant views, varied nature and cultural features such as the Ring Path and farm gardens. The distance is a practical guide for planning your day; allow for walking time and breaks at your own pace.

Route Overview and Trail Character

The route was certified in 2021 and 2024; its hiking seal is valid until September 2027. Seasonal trail conditions are also important when planning your hike: conditions on the trail can change over the course of the year. So base your plans on the current trail conditions as well.

Getting There and Planning Your Route

The Gangelsberg Trail can be reached by public transport on bus route 253 from Bad Kreuznach railway station. The Gasthaus Pfälzer Hof stop is in Duchroth. As routes and services may change, check the current connections before setting off.

For travel by car, a car park at the cemetery on the outskirts of Duchroth is associated with the hiking trail. The bus connection and car park offer different reference points for planning your journey; the car park is not designated as the starting point of the route. The length of the hike and changing seasonal trail conditions are additional factors to consider when planning your day.

Bad Kreuznach: City History and Culture

The bridge houses and the city’s museums are among Bad Kreuznach’s cultural and historical highlights. The bridge houses were built from 1480 onwards to make up for a lack of space. They are half-timbered buildings on the pillars of the old Nahe Bridge, which was built around 1300. The bridge is therefore older than the houses built on its pillars.

Since 1985/86, the museums of the city of Bad Kreuznach have been housed in the listed former Bangert manor, which is set in a historic park. Together with the bridge houses, they offer a distinct focus on city history, architecture and a historic museum setting—a different subject from the natural and cultural features of the Gangelsberg Trail in Duchroth.

More Things to See in the Bad Kreuznach Destination

In Bretzenheim, the Felseneremitage is a place of worship carved entirely into the rock. It probably dates back to prehistoric times and was repurposed in the early Christian period. It can be viewed from the outside all year round, without a guide. Entry to the rock-cut dwelling is currently not possible because of a rockslide.

Windesheim is home to the orgel ART Museum, a musical instrument museum unique of its kind in Germany. Another activity-focused attraction is the barefoot trail in Bad Sobernheim: this 3.5-kilometre footpath leads to the Nahe and includes a clay-treading pool, an agility course and various types of ground surface. The barefoot trail is presented as a summer leisure activity.
