Haßloch lies between the Rhine and wine-growing areas, on the edge of the Haardt Mountains, the Palatinate Forest and the German Wine Route. Different themes come together here: routes for cyclists and walkers, forest activities, local history and the area's connection to wine through the Leisböhl vineyard. If you are considering Haßloch as a place to stay overnight, you can choose your focus based on the routes and interests that appeal to you most.

Choose routes by distance and theme

The Mill Path connects six mills in Haßloch along a route of around 22 kilometres. It is suitable for cycling and walking. This makes it a longer route with a clear local theme: Haßloch's mills. If you would prefer a shorter route with learning stations, the “Am Eichelgarten” Forest Discovery Trail offers a different scale. It is about two kilometres long and has 13 stations where visitors can learn about the forest.

Activities on the Forest Discovery Trail include exploring barefoot, learning about a bee hotel and measuring a tree. The comparison with the Mill Path is straightforward: the two routes differ both in their approximate length and in their focus—mills on one, forest topics with learning stations on the other.

There are also several options for cycling. Flat, signposted cycling routes run around Haßloch, and the forest trail network covers 15 square kilometres. Cyclists can connect directly to the Kraut-und-Rüben Cycle Route, the Salierweg and the Palatia Cycle Route. The local routes and forest trail network offer something different from the individual Mill Path: they provide access to additional named route connections, while the Mill Path links six mills.

Route-finding is also clearly described for the Reben- & Rüben-Runde: the loop is fully signposted and marked with its own logo. Signposted, developed access paths lead from it to railway stations, picturesque town centres and facilities. Haßloch also has signposted, accessible connecting routes. These are specific reference points for route planning; the accessible connecting routes are in Haßloch and do not apply generally to the entire loop.

Another option in the Haßloch Forest is its kilometres of flat riding trails. The range of routes therefore extends beyond cycling and walking to include another activity.

Local history, animals and wine

Half-timbered houses and lovingly designed courtyards shape the appearance of the old town centre. Haßloch's historic heritage includes Christ Church with the Gothic choir of St. Ulrich's Chapel, the local history museum “Ältestes Haus”, the Old Town Hall, the Jewish cemetery, Luther Church, the Mill Fountain and Villa Rustica. These places and buildings offer different ways to explore Haßloch's local history.

The “Ältestes Haus” local history museum documents rural life in Haßloch and the surrounding area from the 17th to the 20th century. Those interested in everyday history will find a different focus here than at the churches, the Old Town Hall or the other local heritage sites mentioned. Its timeframe spans several centuries, and its exhibits cover Haßloch and its surroundings.

The Leisböhl vineyard is another specific local connection. It covers 23.5 hectares of vines. Wines from the vineyard are marketed under the name Leisböhl-Edition and sold at selected locations. Haßloch's connection to wine can therefore be understood both through the size of the vineyard and its named edition; sales are listed for selected locations.

Native and exotic birds call the Haßloch Bird Park home. Visitors can also pet and observe some of the animals there. This combines animal watching with an explicitly stated opportunity for direct contact—with the qualification that this applies to some animals, not all the birds in the park.
