Ebertsheim offers distinct points of interest for a stay: hiking trails with specific distances, the renaturalized area along the Eisbach, and details at St. Stephen’s Church. The trail lengths make it easy to compare hiking options, while nature and local history provide their own points of focus.

Compare hiking trails by distance

The Hab-8 Trail is laid out in a figure-eight and connects the districts of Ebertsheim and Rodenbach. The route is 8 kilometers long in total. It can be divided into a 2.5-kilometer Rodenbach section and a 5.5-kilometer Ebertsheim section. The Kneipp Church Hiking Trail is 9.6 kilometers long. Comparing the two trails by distance, the Hab-8 Trail is the shorter overall route. Within the Hab-8 Trail, the Rodenbach section is shorter than the Ebertsheim section; comparing the complete routes, the Kneipp Church Hiking Trail is longer.

The Eisbach and the landscape

Ebertsheim is associated with the Eisbach, Seltenbach and Rodenbach streams. The Ebertsheim renaturalization area, with a water-play area and water-play equipment, is located on the Eisbach. Other natural features include frogs and newts along the Eisbach; more than 20 bird species have also been recorded at this site. Species-rich limestone grasslands can be found around Ebertsheim, including areas on Grünstadter Berg.

There are no sanitary facilities in the renaturalization area. Please do not drive along the service road at the end of Wassergasse. You can park at the station, in the parking lot about 500 meters away.

St. Stephen’s Church and local history

A late Gothic sundial is carved into a sandstone block next to the south portal of St. Stephen’s Church. Inside is Johann Adam Schlesinger’s painting “Martin Luther with a Swan.” The sundial at the portal and the painting inside the church represent two different art forms.

The town’s history dates back to Celtic and Roman settlement in the Eisbach Valley and also includes the Frankish period. Ebertsheim sandstone was used in the construction and repair of churches and buildings in Worms, Mannheim and other places in the Vorderpfalz region.

Getting here and places to eat

Ebertsheim has a railway connection. Worms and Neustadt an der Weinstraße can be reached by train in less time than Ludwigshafen and Mannheim. For cyclists, a cycle route runs along the L 395 in the direction of Ebertsheim-Eisenberg. Ebertsheim station is designated as a hiking station for local hiking routes.

Gasthaus Gutfrucht is a country restaurant serving regional cuisine and a place for hikers to stop for a meal.

Bad Dürkheim as the wider destination

The wider destination of Bad Dürkheim encompasses a district stretching along the German Wine Route to the wooded heights of the Palatinate Forest. The Dürkheim Sausage Market is considered the largest wine festival in the world and has a 600-year tradition. In Deidesheim, the Museum of Wine Culture documents the relationship between people, wine and viticulture; a 2.3-kilometer walking route leads through the historic town center. These regional themes complement Ebertsheim’s local hiking, nature and cultural attractions with a perspective of their own.
