Mörstadt: A wine village with its own local highlights

Mörstadt is a wine village in Rheinhessen, with local dining and modern accommodation options for overnight stays and holidays. A village pond, a wine trail and the Protestant church each provide a distinct local highlight. Please check separately which individual accommodations suit your trip and are available. For regional context, Mörstadt can also be considered alongside the cultural and landscape themes of the wider Alzey-Worms destination.

At the edge of the village lies the Woog, a village pond with a place to rest beside the water. The wine trail is linked to a barbecue hut in the wooded area of Mörstadter Berg. Facilities and accessibility may change; check the latest information before visiting.

The Protestant church combines a Late Gothic west tower dating from 1509 with a Baroque nave. A Stumm organ dating from 1786 stands in the west gallery. The Saalbau anno 1910 – Weinrestaurant Kinges-Kessel, a wine restaurant, is located at Langgasse 30 in Mörstadt. Check current opening hours before visiting, as business information may change.

Culture and landscape in Alzey-Worms

In the wider Alzey-Worms destination, the Museum of the City of Alzey presents two distinct historical themes. Its prehistoric and early historic exhibition covers the cultural and historical development of inner Rheinhessen from the Neolithic period through the Bronze, Iron and Roman Ages to the Merovingian period; the time span covers more than 6,000 years. By contrast, the geology and paleontology exhibition focuses on the Mainz Basin. Minerals, especially fossils, help illustrate its development over millions of years. Human cultural history and geological development are thus presented as clearly distinct themes.

The wider Alzey-Worms destination also offers landscape and cultural themes ranging from viewpoints to historic architectural forms. Petersberg, between Gau-Odernheim and Bechtolsheim, is 246 metres high, covered in vines and offers far-reaching views across the Wonnegau and the hill country. In and around Flonheim are white trulli—small buildings in the vineyards constructed by Lombard migrant workers. The Jewish cemetery in Flonheim contains around 60 gravestones set out in rows, most of them made of Flonheim sandstone. These examples offer different highlights: the wine-growing landscape at Petersberg, small buildings among the vineyards and gravestones made from local stone.

Explore hiking and cycling routes by theme

The Alzey Art & Culture Hiking Trail runs through the vineyards and features 20 works of art and 22 vineyard cottages. The cycling routes focus on other themes: the Mill Cycle Route links historic mills and scenic wine villages, while the Hiwwel Route crosses hills with recurring viewpoints. The Rhine Terrace Route passes through picturesque wine villages and vineyard slopes, while the Zellertal Cycle Route branches off into the Zellertal valley. This lets you choose routes by their stated theme—art and vineyard cottages, mills and villages, or hilly landscapes shaped by vineyards. Conditions and signage on cycling routes may change; check the latest information before setting out.
