Eich offers several ways to enjoy a stay close together: swimming at the Altrhein Badesee Eich, walking a circular trail around the Old Rhine lakes, and opportunities for observing nature. Choose how to explore the town based on your interests—with time by the water, outdoor activity, or a detour to discover local history.

Swimming Lake and Circular Trail

Swimming at the Altrhein Badesee Eich is free of charge, is at your own risk, and is not supervised by the DLRG. Check the current visitor rules and safety information before swimming. The lake was created by gravel and sand extraction and consists of three sections. Around 14,000 square metres of sandy beach and an adjoining sunbathing lawn define the swimming area. Facilities include a playground, a beach volleyball court, a boccia court, changing rooms, toilets and parking. If you depend on specific facilities for your visit, check their current availability in advance.

If you prefer to explore on foot, you can take a six-kilometre circular trail. It starts at the fire station on OsthofenerstraĂźe and goes around three Old Rhine lakes. Along the way, it passes a bathing beach and a former river course; ten information stations, observation huts and a lookout tower provide additional points of orientation. The route combines waterside scenery and information, so you need not limit your visit to the swimming area.

Water Sports and Cycling

Sailing, motorboating and fishing are available at Eicher See. Activities and rules may change, so check in advance what applies to your plans. The second slipway at Eicher See is in the western section on the Eich side, at Falkenweg 25. If you plan to use it, check its condition in advance as well.

For longer cycling tours, the 1,230-kilometre Veloroute Rhein runs through Worms, Hamm, Eich, Gimbsheim, Mainz and Bingen. Cycle paths in the Verbandsgemeinde Eich have few inclines and are considered suitable for family rides; individual routes may vary. The Verbandsgemeinde EICH Tourist Information Office offers a leisure map showing cycle paths in the surrounding area, as well as information about cycling routes in Rheinhessen. This gives you both a long-distance route and information about other cycle paths to help plan your trip.

Nature at the Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine

The Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine provides habitats for rare plants and threatened animal species. These include orchids, grasses and reed species, as well as dragonflies and amphibians, which find places of refuge there. The AltrheinErlebnisPfad focuses on the 667-hectare Eich-Gimbsheim Old Rhine Natura 2000 site. Rare and specialised bird species live in the reed beds; other rare or threatened wild animals also find habitats there. The nature-related themes thus range from plant communities and wetlands to birdlife.

Local History and Exhibitions

The Eich Local History Museum presents local history through everyday and craft objects, mammoth bones and other historical finds. The Museum of the Verbandsgemeinde Eich in Gimbsheim has a different focus: it is housed in the former Stork Schoolhouse and has three themed rooms and a room for changing exhibitions. Its exhibits include an Ice Age mammoth skeleton, Roman and Frankish finds, and an early medieval watermill ship from the 8th century, discovered in Gimbsheim. The two museums offer different ways to explore local history and historical finds.

Culture in the broader Alzey-Worms destination

In the broader Alzey-Worms destination, the Museum of the City of Alzey explores further historical and natural history themes. Its prehistory and early history exhibition traces the cultural and historical development of central Rheinhessen from the Neolithic through the Bronze Age, Iron Age, Roman period and Merovingian period, covering more than 6,000 years. The geology and palaeontology exhibition focuses on the Mainz Basin; minerals, especially fossils, illustrate its development over millions of years.
